Question for Bible People |
|
I had a thought for a LTEE - IF the Rethugs want to bring the Bible and religion into the mix here - I seem to recall a passage in the Bible about every 7 years all debts should be forgiven? Are there more like these - that benefit the little people? Let's turn the debate around - IF we're going to abide by God's Law, then let's abide by all of them. We the people demand our mortgages to be paid, credit cards paid off, and any other accumulated debt. Just a thought - but would like to do a LTEE. Thanks in advance good people.

because it would be taking advantage of those less fortunate.
On edit: Oh, there's another good story about a guy who broke the law. The townsfolk wanted to stone him to death, but Jesus would hear none of it. He sent him to a town where he wasn't known and told him to sin no more.

|
non-hebrew slaves didn't go free as I recall. That always bugged me.

2. Well, I'm not "Bible people",but Frist&Co may have opened a can of worms. |
|
Worms that turn right back at them. I think this could get fun, especially if the sane evangelicals and true Christians maintain and amplify their emerging voices. Standing hip to hip with Christian Reconstructionists may be the Republican Party's downfall.

I just don't know - I hope you're right, but I just don't know how this is going to wind up playing. I realize it is their way of destroying the last bastion of our Constitution and Bill of Rights, but they've gotten away with all the rest of it.

I scrapped the other LTEE though and went with this one - I have my doubts it will get published, although most of mine do. We'll see.
I am sick of this Republican administration using the churches to push their agendas (Justice Sunday). These Republicans are the modern day “money changers” that Jesus (who loathed politicians), would throw out again if he were here today. Wake up people, you are being used. This administration is hiding behind the Bible and the churches while destroying the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Going after the Judges and the Courts, America’s last bastion of freedom, is the only thing that stands in their way of a complete dictatorship. Leave the stench of this administration in Washington and don’t allow these politicians to contaminate God’s house with their blasphemy, greed and lies.

Luke 7:41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed 500 pence and the other fifty. Luke 7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore which he loved most?
and here is the one you reference: Deuteronomy 15:1 At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release. 15:2 And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbor shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the Lord's release

8. Pat Robertson was calling for that for awhile |
|
I think he started investing in some banks eventually and turned around on that issue quickly.
Actually there is a far more devestating verse regarding the rights normal condition of greed. Luke 6:30 stipulates that if anyone asks you for something you are to give it to them. If someone takes something from you do not ask for it back.

thoughts welcome, but I'm out of here for the evening. I will check back tomorrow. Thanks once again to you all!
Since Dr. Frist is using the Christian Right to try to create “faux” outrage over the Judicial nominations and threatening the nuclear option – I say fine, but let’s go all the way. If the Bible is going to dictate America’s government rather than our Constitution and Bill of Rights, then we can’t pick and choose. Deuteronomy 15:1-2 tells me that “At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release. And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbor shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbor, or of his brother; because it is called the Lord's release.” So I say every 7 years, our mortgages, credit cards and any other accumulated debt be released. The Bible says this is God’s law. Let’s have a true test of this Republican administration. Wake up people, they’ve destroyed the Constitution and Bill of Rights and now they are going after the only other thing that stands in their way and our last bastion of freedom, the Courts, using the Christian Right to do so.

20. That also means any bonds you bought and many investments in general |
|
would become null and void--do you really want to forgive money you've essentially loaned to various corporations? Ouch!
Careful whatcha ask for.
I'd settle for unmafialike interest rates on personal loans.

10. Here is a fitting passage |
|
Living Bible version Luke 16:13 For neither you nor anyone else can serve two masters. You will hate one and show loyalty to the other, or else the other way around--you will be enthusiastic about one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Soooo, by biblical doctorine, Bush and his cabal cannot love money and love God both equally. Who wants to take bets on the one he truly loves?

16. It is selective convenience |
|
The bible as it is written should never reflect on the values that we place in our society. This is not to say that you cannot live by the spirit of the bible--but justifying your actions by pulling a verse out to prove an argument doesn't work because it is highly metaphorical and would be impossible to follow it literally. If you cannot follow something word for word, then you cannot live by the written word--it is arrogance that would make someone believe that they could. However, living by the spirit of the bible of grace, forgiveness, kindness, and doing unto others is a way that people can make the Bible relevant in their lives.

debts are cancelled, prisoners are released, and it's not over yet... But "woe unto those that call evil good and good evil..." Isaiah 5:20 So don't believe everything someone who claims to be christian is saying. Corruption will be exposed, Ephesians 5. edit: GOD is Love and asks us to Love one another. "Search the scriptures, in them you have life"...

It's great to be able to use the word Jewish without seeing the words "Zionist Conspiracy." Ah Damn! They tricked me into saying it. But that's the last time. Any way I'll be glad when we have a President that can form domestic policy from something American instead of importing it from the Middle East.
