Why no hoopla when police handcuffed kids at the Terri Schiavo protest? |
|
Hey, I just had a thought.
Why wasn't there that much hoopla about the kids getting arrested at the Terri Schiavo protest. I know we are Dems, but it just seems odd that we got wrapped up in an out of control 5-year old, when not too long ago police arrested kids trying to bring water to Terri Schiavo?
Anyways, just something that crossed my mind.
As for me, all the kids in these episodes were disorderly and should get arrested. It's good to scare the shit out of kids...set em straight. It worked for me.

Maybe you didn't notice it because you didn't give a shit. Meaning cops scaring the shit out of you didn't work so well after all.

thats why I said many people didn't get a rise out of kids being arrested at the Schiavo case. A few did, I remember that. I guess it was because there were too many facets to the Schiavo case.

Not people. The teevee didn't get upset about it because it would have made the right wingers look even loonier, intentionally having their kids arrested. They'd have had to call in CPS because that's abuse in any book.
Some little kids live in such bizarre environments that having the police called on them is a badge of honor. It's a failure in parenting and teaching to have cops handcuff a 5 year old, no way around it.

4. It isn't cool to scare the shit out of five year olds who have little |

concept of discerning reality and fantasy.
The Schiavo protest kids were cuffed because their PARENTS organized the stunts for the media.

profiled by the police? Yeah, real healthy to scare children and make them FEAR the police.

11. The mom will probably be the one reenforcing the FEAR. |
|
Who is to say that profiling will be as bad as it is today 15 years from now? The mom really has two choices as to what to say to her daughter.
1. Say that police are protectors and are human like you and I and many times they make mistakes.
2. Say, don't ever trust a pig. They will profile and they will hunt you down if they need a scape goat.
It was a pretty bad situation. I blame the mom through all of this for not raising her daughter properly.
As per your question about whether I was a five year old African American, yes, but now I am 33 year old Mexican-American. :silly:

6. I don't believe the 5 yr old was breaking the law. |
|
The kids trying to get in to see Terry Schiavo were breaking the law.
As for me, I don't think handcuffing a 5 yr old and putting her in a police wagon to scare the shit out of her is humane.

13. According to the entire video. |
|
the mother of the 5 yr. old had called the police before to her house and had her child handcuffed. This story is about the mother's lack of child rearing skills. She fired her attorney and contracted with a TV show to sell her story. It's just more bullshit in Amerika.

Lots of people are having subjective vision when it comes to that woman and her penchant for bullshit. Calling the cops herself on the same child, refusing to come to the school, selling her story to the highest bidder ... the kid doesn't have a chance to grow up knowing how to behave.

disgusting. All I had to do when I was 6 was I had to walk with the cops to the car, so they can check me for injuries (parent's idea) and got a talking to about running away from something I committed.

15. I find the replies here very interesting |

In both cases a child is parented badly. In both cases the result of that bad parenting is that the child is being disorderly (it is breaking the law to vandalize a classroom). Yet in case 1, the child shouldn't be handcuffed and in case 2 they should be. I find this amazingly hypocritical. After all, why didn't the cops around the Hospice distract the children? Maybe some teachers should have been sent in.
I disagree with your premise that the girl deserved to be handcuffed since she was calm when the police arrived, but the hypocrisy is real.

I wrote the Mayor and said they ought to just call in DFS and take the kids into their custody. Skip the ridiculous arrests & handcuffing. One thing fundies fear is DFS. That would have stopped that crap in its tracks.
There's no hypocrisy here. I saw plenty of DUers who were pissed that kids were being handcuffed, but knew where to place the blame, on their parents. THIS little girl was similarly abused, by incompetent teachers.
And those teachers where incompetent DSC, I have worked in day cares, been a scout leader and a coach. I have a bipolar step-son. I have never allowed a situation to get out of control like that. Those teachers were pissed that mom didn't give in to their authoritarian mentality and they were going to show her but good.

and the kids were released very quickly into their parents' custody. From what I've heard, they all got some nominal community service to do.
