Can military recruiters target middle schools?
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a military person walking up to the middle school near my home...is it legal to recruit 7th and 8th graders now? Shouldn't the parents at least be informed the day the military comes into the classroom to brainwash them? I would want to to know...

1. Maybe a parent?
I know there are a couple of guys at my kid's school who occasionally come dressed out, their way home from work.

2. I believe NCLB
says that the schools have to let them in. This means middle schools, too.

I read an article the other day .....

They are signing up 14 yr old boys and paying them money now .
When they turn 18 they must enlist.

5. Isn't this
a great fucking policy.

You can sign forms that you don't want information about your child given out to the military recruiters, but the norm is full access.

I just remembered a WAC came to my school when I was in the 7th grade and talked about opportunities for women who joined the Navy...it was the Vietnam era...I went home and told my dad and he said "NO WAY...you can take that thought right out of your mind young lady...you're going to college!". So...recruitment of Americas most precious resource has been going on for ...a long long time...

It's just not right...

8. Do you have a link to this article or were you being sarcastic?
I remember military personal coming to our school, they were always nice and normally had cool stories. It didn't influence me at all but I had a lot of friends in the ROTC and for them it was good.

I do remember in high school some dumbass came in to our automotive class with a hummer he was a total tool. Our class defiantly knew more about cars then him which was kind of sad.

3. Yes, they can...
military recruiters can go pretty much where they want in schools, thanks to No Child Left Behind, and, they can get all of the kids' personal information from the school. They can do anything any other employer can do, and a little more.

But, there is an option for parents to deny any information about their kids going to the recruiters, and at least teachers can throw them out of the classroom.

It's not legal to recruit anyone that young, but they can try to set up junior ROTC programs and interest the kids in military careers.

Sucks, doesn't it, that they are robbing the cradle like that. Sex isn't the only bad thing you can do with a minor.
