I steal the idea from DU's own 'nothingshocksmeanymore'.

1. I hadn't thought about it, but
you have asked the question, I think since the 2000 election and 9/11 it will take something really big too shock me. An impeachment of "The Bush" would do it.

2. Outrage overload is far more regular now

And I suspect that's just how "they" want it. When that final WMD report can come out without even causing a ripple of indignation from the masses, you know that we're on the path to global irrelevancy.

But here's something that would indeed shock me:

ABC WORLD NEWS TONIGHT
May 17, 2008

PETER JENNINGS: Good evening, and we begin tonight with the shocking news out of Washington that we told you about first, earlier today on ABC News. Osama bin Laden, the man thought to be behind the deadly attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon nearly seven years ago, was found dead today in a tiny room in the basement of the White House. The questions are many: How long was he there, and what did President Bush know? But presumptive Republican presidental nominee Jeb Bush says it's a clear sign that the War on Terror is being won, and Republicans in Congress were quick to blast critics for questioning the president's decision to keep bin Laden in the White House. We have a series of reports ...

Hm... On second thought, I guess nothing truly would shock me anymore. But I tried, but then I realized what the Republican Noise Machine would do, even to this story. Perhaps I should just go back to bed now.

On edit: OK, I did think of something that would truly shock me...

"... We have a series of reports, beginning with ABC News White House correspondent Ann Coulter."

3. I'm shocked you could ask that
Oh come on! Someone had to say it!

In truth... I don't think I have been shocked for quite some time. But its not because of being burnt out. I believe I have some level of insite to the human condition and can see the paths that are being travelled by our society. So far not much has been what I would say is beyond belief.

4. I'm completely jaded
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 08:15 AM by Atlas Mugged
Have been since I was about 17, really. Lived on the streets of the Tenderloin in San Francisco when I was a teenager. Lived in Seattle, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles for years, and New Orleans for many, many years. I've had, and still have, many friends in various political offices, some Democrat, some Republican and the odd Independent. I've been all over the world. I watched 9/11 live as it unfolded on television.

Basically, if something utterly horrible/fantastic/amazing/disgusting/pornographic/Republican/filth&fury/loathsome/inspiring/demented/
angelic/cataclysmic/horrendous/stultifying/whatever occurs, I'm one of those people that stands there calmly, processes it immediately and responds appropriately.

7. I'm rarely shocked, but...
I find myself getting a lot more pissed and disgusted about some things. Deeply and profoundly pissed and disgusted. I am afraid that I've lived long enough and seen enough to to lose hope that things will actually get better.

Perhaps this is the problem-- that it's part of the normal aging process that one loses the hope and idealism of youth and becomes cynical.
