I wonder if that stunt Brian Williams pulled yesterday is typical of how the media covers everything - including and especially the war?
If you didn't see it...Williams was doing on-location hurricane reports for MSNBC...He found a place to stand between two buildings that greatly exageerated the wind speed. The wind seemed fast enough to easily knock him down. The shot opened with Williams clinging to a building. Later, a weather channel reporter joined Williams, but they were both violently blown away...MSNBC repeated this clip all afternoon...
So, to cover a big story...you find one tiny area that is in no way typical of the situation...and report from that tiny area...just because it creates a more sensational image for the viewer???
I worry this dynamic is happening more than we(I) may suspect.
Very poor showing by the media yesterday...Wind distorted mics, wet lenses, glitchy satellite and web streams...I doubt Brokaw would have done the same stunt Brian Williams pulled.

2. I thought the same thing when I saw it! |

Did you also notice that the camera got jostled a few times and on the left side of the screen it showed the end of the building was like 10 feet away from him?

3. Saw this on Nightly News w/ Brokaw |

I agree with you that media routinely distorts and concerns itself with "entertainment" far too much. But, at least Brokaw said that they were between two buildings and the wind was exaggerated on this "breezeway". I did not watch the cable news coverage of Isabel and tuned in to the Weather Channel for info.
