3. What does Edwards bring to the table now? |
|
It seems he made a calculation early on to lay low and not cause ripples. I don't think he planned on Dean making waves or Clark making a splash. He has been so cautious he is almost a non-entity.

Edwards is steady and sound. And a great candidate.

9. If Wes Clark Loses (God Forbid) |
|
Edwards has the inside route in 08 and if Clark wins he's perfectly poised for 2012...
John Edwards was my first choice... He has moved to second.....
I was watching the Capital Gang last night.... Al Hunt was a big early supporter of John Edwards but he said that Edwards was hurt by the change in national mood after 9-11...

You think that an unseasoned, career military officer is the senior in that relationship? Give me Edwards any day. The whole Time Mag Article that has Clark saying he'd have been a republican if Carl Rove had called him back has got my radar up. Clark's way too thin-skinned to make it long in this arena. Mark my words. He's short lived this election cycle.

Eleven Generals have went to the White House...
I like John Edwards but he is a first term senator....The last senator to go to the White House was John Kennedy and he was a two term senator, a three term congressman, and missed being the 1956 vice presidential candidate by a hair...
IMHO, this in not a fertile political environment for John Edwards....
P.S. John Kennedy was also a war hero....
on edit-
He's not just some career military officer.... You talk about him like he's some obscure general presiding over a state Natioal Guard unit ... He was the Supreme Allied Commannder who prosecuted the successful war against Milosevic...
I hate when people knock down other people's candidates rather than build up their own...

11. The qualities of FDR and Lincoln |
|
The powers of persuassion, and a concern for the least among us.
I think there will come a point in the campaign when people realize that the two worst crises in America were WWII and the Civil War, and they'll realize that it was a lawyers' skill in persuading the nation of the right thing to do, and a concern for the way the economy hurt the people lowest on the ladder were the qualities of the presidents who pulled us out of crises.
They'll forget about the angry guy and the general, and pick the person who emodies the qualities of FDR and Lincoln.

John Edwards has a natural empathy that is very compelling....
I just think it's hard for him to break through in this political environment...

as FDR and Lincoln.
Can you say that about any of the others?

19. Lincoln-Edwards: great persuaders. DK and Gep aren't. |
|
DK and Gep don't have the lawyer's skill of persuasion.
I think the skills Lincoln learned as a trial attorney were as valuable to America as the fact that Lincoln had humble origins (which probably help him have such concern about the economic opportunities of the least among us).
Also, Lincoln and Edwards built up very successful private practices before deciding that they could help more people by going into politics. Politics was the natural extension of the success they created in their first professions.
I see Lincoln in Edwards. I don't see Lincoln in Gep or DK.

15. wasted way too much time on Hillary |
|
Roberts and McManus admit all the talk is just talk, and yet they still devoted several minutes to the nonsense.
He handled it really well, the Hillary questions are inane from my point of view and from Edwards's point of view they must be highly annoying.
Did McManus even have a non-Hillary question for Edwards? What does that say, he thinks so little of Edwards that the only thing he can think of to ask about is about someone who has repeatedly said she's not going to be in the race?
