it turns the debate into a contest between uniforms and medals, rather than a contest between ideas and facts. bush* tried to capitalize on the symbolism of the uniform with his carrier-landing stunt. the dems should be fighting this militaristic mentality, instead of pandering to it. otherwise we may fall into the trap of making military service a de facto requirement for public office. if that happens, it'll be bad news for the dems. it may be good for Clark personally, but next time around it'll bite, when the repubs run their own "war hero" general.
