the story about Yee is inconsistent with other secrecy |
|
Why did they tell the world about Yee and the other alleged spies at Gitmo? With the unprecedented secrecy regarding that whole operation, why have they opened this? We're getting details of the surveillance on these guys. Why? What is the hidden message?

2. Get ready for a purge in the military... |
|
I'm sure this will make the grunts on the ground keep their criticisms of "government" down.
Leaks will be treated as "espionage." And bad news from Iraq will be treatetd as giving "aid and comfort" to the enemy.

3. More like an implied threat - to all of us? |
|
The stated reason for the charges - national security - is laughable on its face. The only secrets Yee could've had were details of prisoner abuse. The regime knows we know this; they just want to publicize the abuse while maintaining plausible deniability.

Could this possibly be a Rovian "September surprise?" See, folks, look what we did. We ferreted out a spy ring. We are really on top of things. This business has been dubious from the get-go. They will probably put Yee in with the others and forget about him.

5. The whole point of Gitmo is to abuse muslims. |
|
The whole reason for the secrecy and the military tribunals is that they don't have any evidence of any wrong doing. It just makes some people feel better thinking that these "evil terrorists" (muslims) are being locked up without a trial, abused, and tortured. It's the worlds sickest publicity stunt.

Yee was scheduled to return from Gitmo and be reunited with his family. When he didn't show up, his wife went looking for him. My guess is she was about to go to the press, so the Feds announced his detention.
Once they decided they had to tell about Yee, they realized they have to explain why they were concerned about him, but hadn't charged him. That lead to their releasing info on the other alleged spy.
It seems to me that revealing that terrorists may have not only infiltrated the military, but done so at a high-security facility is NOT something they want the public to know. I don't see any benefit for them in this, and that makes me think that their hand was forced.
