Who are we gonna nail in Wilsongate? |
|
Bob Novak would seem to be small potatoes to me...
Is there any chance of dragging down senior Bush officials?

2. My guess: one of Scooter Libby's direct subordinates |
|
Scootie-Poot's too high in the food chain, so BushCo won't allow showing him the door -- besides, things would be getting uncomfortably close to Crashcart himself at that point, and that just can't be allowed.
Anyone lower than a direct subordinate, and the inherent bloodlust in these things won't be satisfied and it'll just keep dripping on. And who would buy that a Third-Assistant Fertilizer-Taster would have access to such information in the first place?

3. All roads lead to Rove |
|
It's probably wishful thinking that any decent resignations will come out of this, much less jail time. This is categorically criminal behavior. His own father named exactly this sort of action as the highest form of treason. But if I were a betting man, I'd put my dollars on BushCo dodging this bullet. It's one of those problems that can be solved simply by firing one middle level peon.

4. No one will take a fall for this |
|
...that is, no one who wasn't really connected to it.
In other "scandals", it is usual for someone to take a fall for the party/president. All that is at risk is some hand wringing, but the fall guy or gal then moves on to the private sector with contacts and a probable high paying job.
In this instance, the fall guy or gal would face 10 years in federal prison, fines, massive legal costs, a felony conviction on her/his record, serious demonization in the press, and overall contempt by fellow Americans. Bush isn't loved that much by people in his administration. After all is said and done, self preservation comes first.
I have a feeling that the real perp will get nailed on this one.

I've been waiting for the scripted replay of Watergate for over a year now.

Actually, wouldn't it be great if it came out that W. knew it was happening and condoned it?
I get all giggly thinking about that possibility.

5. with Karl Rove on the job, unfortunately nobody |
|
of any substance. This is already fading from the news cycle, and being replaced by Rush and his pain killer addiction, Ahnuld's 100-day plan, and whatever other shark attack they can find.
In one sense, maybe Rush is the real fall guy here.

Mr. YellowCake BunkerBoy has screwed the pooch.
Plus, he's a war profiteer, which will make him a nice target.
