WWLTV: Chavez HAS offered aid, as have some others
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 10:55 AM by Nikki Stone 1
8:50 A.M. - (AP): -- The world is reacting to America's disaster. Saudi Arabia says it's ready to increase crude oil production to replace market shortages. Venezuela is offering humanitarian aid and fuel. Canada's Red Cross is assembling volunteers. French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder sent messages of sympathy to President Bush.

Pope Benedict says he's praying for victims of the "tragic" hurricane while China's President Hu Jintao expressed his belief that the American people would "rebuild their beautiful homeland."

But not all responses were positive. Islamic extremists are rejoicing. Internet chatter referred to the storm as "Private" Katrina, and said it had joined the global holy war against the U.S.

French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder sent messages of sympathy to President Bush.

What that's it? Two rich nations and you can't do a damn thing? Saudi Arabia is doing more than you guys.

5. Saudis are increasing crude production....
...I don't see this as being anything more than Saudi's using this opportunity to make more money for themselves.

If they really wanted to donate they would GIVE us the oil.

At least Chavez is donating help!

Our government has nothing but open contempt for them.

11. To set an example
You don't see Chavez saying "Our hearts are with you, good luck."

13. Our Government Has *Already* Set The Example... Set The Standard.
It has set the tone and demeanor, and others are now following. I'm not surprised at their initial response and I don't blame them. We are *wasting* our OWN resources and at the same time we are EXPECTING other nations to assist us in this tragedy? Are they obligated to us in any way?

Not too long ago, our government demonstrated its "generosity" with its (pinky to corner of mouth) one MILLION dollar donation to the tsunami relief efforts. (And then demanded to dictate where and how it would be spent.)

<< You don't see Chavez saying "Our hearts are with you, good luck." >>

That's true. I don't see that. --- Sorry to be the cynic, but I suspect that there's more to his offer than meets the eye. It's very good PR for him to be helping out a nation that treats him as it does.

8. Venezuela offers oil and aid. Dubya offers to overthrow their government.
And meanwhile, New Orleans is beginning to resemble Baghdad, both in destruction and looting.

Note: if your city is going to suffer a natural disaster, try to have it occur when Dubya is NOT president.
