What is the POINT of Bush's Homeland Security?
http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/theme_home2.jsp

Department of Homeland Security

Preparing America

In the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency, the Department of Homeland Security will assume primary responsibility on March 1st for ensuring that emergency response professionals are prepared for any situation. This will entail providing a coordinated, comprehensive federal response to any large-scale crisis and mounting a swift and effective recovery effort.

--------------------------------

Kind of makes the argument that it's the local authorities' fault for not submitting written requests in triplicate of everything they needed a bit moot, does it not?

1. It's about getting information on everyone that they can
use if they think you are a threat to their agenda. We have no real security. All the airport checks and other nonsense that goes on is only window dressing.

13. Exactly what I was going to say.
Getting information on Americans is #1 on their agenda. They are rolling up other, legitimate agencies to keep them from doing their own real jobs. The only security they are interested in is their own.

2. Demanding triplicate in a disaster is bad management.
Shows right off the bat they have no idea what they're doing. They don't process the concept of TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. THIS IS LIFE OR DEATH.

Really sorry they don't have homes in the area.

3. yes
and it gives us all a talking point in LTTE and to others-where the heck has all the money for homeland security gone? It obviously hasn't gone to make the homeland secure.

8. Yes. More centralized control over agencies under it.
It was a reorganization that (supposedly) consolidated command and control. Obviously, another * failure.

11. Its Just a Cash Distribution Center
No shit. Before I retired last January I was detailed to work in support of DHS for the last couple of months. It was simply unbelievable. The whole mess was made up of the most arrogant people I have every met in my life and the end result of their unimaginable bullshit was to be the dealer at the table of Government cash. It was the worst possible collusion of corporate welfare with sheer greed. I was utterly disgusted and did every thing in my power to make their lives harder right up to the day I left. Those assholes do not even try to hide what they are doing. That is what amazed me so much. I had seen million and millions of dollars directed toward favored vendors in my 20+ years with Government but absolutely nothing like the shit DHS was doing.

14. Yup I envision the Iraq "reconstruction" mode here as well. These guys
are robber barons, looting the public's funds. The public may get crumbs that are left over and the elite will be bitching that needy people want handouts while it's corporate welfare on a grand scale.

16. Tell people about this everytime they try to blame the local authorities!
HOMELAND SECURITY had complete control. COMPLETE CONTROL. It was supposedly the whole REASON the agency was created.
