a suggestion/request on reference to Guantanamo |
|
I have noticed that wingnuts like to refer to the camp Uncle John has set up at Guantanamo Bay as "Gitmo." How cute. It enables them to feel like they are part of the gang standing guard over the evil-doers. It is also similar to Shrub's nicknaming obsession. Sick, but understandable. What I have a problem with is our side using the same term. How would you feel about references to "Aushy" or "Dachy" when talking about the (original) Nazi concentration camps? Cute? By using their term, we are minimizing the impact of the camp and making it sound like a harmless YMCA daycamp. As the reichwing has taught us, words have power. We should use language more wisely. So, I am asking that we refer to the place where liberty goes to die by its correct name.

The current administration didn't make that name up- it's been around for a while.
