"KATEGATE"
We need to name this shame, like Frank Luntz would.

6. I love the name Kate, but something catchy will catch on, don't you think?
And the Repubs know all too well the power of a catchy name or phrase, like (ugh) "flip-flop"; something people like to say, preferably with internal rhyme or alliteration ("compassionate conservative").

2. Katrinagate
The term is already in play.

There are likely to be other catchphrases, too, like "Who drowned New Orleans?"

10. Re. "Kategate": Words have power. Remember "Sore Loserman"?
Those signs were pre-printed in 2000.

Kategate wouldn't have happened without Republican manipulation of language in 2000 and 2004.

11. Something I'm wondering
why does every thing like this have to have the word "gate" at the end? Now I understand Watergate cause that's the name of the hotel. But goodness. This isn't Bush breaking into a hotel so why "gate"? Just a personal thing but I think it's annoying. Maybe it's just me.

14. It's just shorthand. Meaning has become symbolic of any scandal.

12. Oh God, please no. No more fucking 'gates'
it instantly invalidates the entire thing when people start slinging around gate names. It's also amateur hackery to just slap a -gate on the end of the word and think you're clever.

15. Murder
Why not call it what it is. Right now, my wife, the real W_D is helping out victims of *attempted murder* at the local shelter. That's what I call it and continue to call it. Those people were murdered in the gulf last week and there is no pretty way to say it.

Mr. W_D

17. Mad Max Domegate. That's where the worst of the suffering
happened because of the authorities effing up, not because of the hurricane.
