I wonder if he read the thread on DU with all the great links on it about this issue? Or maybe some DUers sent it to him, I sure hope so!
I sure hope you will keep us updated, I don't get MSNBC so can't watch. :(

4. They didn't handle Florida differently, damn it. |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 07:09 PM by Redstone
They just got lucky that there was no flooding, and that the people afected were, overall, better off, and therefore better able to help themselves.
And then, there's lower population density. No city the size of New Orleans got clobbered as badly as New Orleans did.
They were every bit as incompetent; it just didn't show.
Enough is enough, already. These people fucked up because they're fuckups, not because of some conspiracy.
Please.

6. Maybe but I did read they got there the next morning. |
|
The first Bush had trouble with all this but Clinton sort of made it a real part of the govt. FEMA I am talking about, and put people who knew things like helping people. I do under stand that all the Arabia house in NO were saved so that is one good point.

8. and your proof of no conspiracy is.....? |
|
now before you get upset, I know there's no way to prove a negative, HOWEVER, if there IS a conspiracy, and I am beginning to believe there is, then we have a lot more questions supporting it than you have negating it.
If it was JUST incompetence, there would be no legitimate reason to turn back rescuers. If it was JUST incompetence, why was the sonic laser in NO before any water or MREs were? If it was JUST incompetence, why did Bush try to blackmail Blanco to federalize?
I'm afraid my questions more support a conspiracy than your bald claim there is no conspiracy does to dispell the notion.

It really just shows them caring about the voters in a swing state before an election and not about people who are of no political value to the administration.
It is simply a reflection of the well documented fact that this administration only thinks about its political interests and the interests of its corporate benefactors.

12. You make a very good point. But I still believe that the only |
|
difference was in scale, so their incompetence didn't show.
I honestly think that even if it had been a largely-white city like, say, Minneapolis, the same thing would have happened.
Politicization knows no racial boundaries. Bureaucracy is blindly incompetent.
Just my opinion.

pre-election, bro as gov. If the measure of a prez is the reaction to catastrophes, his reaction time has sure slowed down. Grounds for impeachment, if you ask me.

|

There is no doubt about that.
I lived there, my mother lives there, and I worked at one of the governments hit and have been told the entire sordid tale over the last year.
Toss in this too: Remember the lines of utility trucks heading to the Tampa/Sarasota/PG vicinity before the hit? I don't recall that level of pre-hurricane activity in N.O.. Also They expected a storm surge in PG that would have swamped the town of 16k that 94% lies in the FEMA 100 year flood plain. N.O. is the only lower city afaik.
So they expected massive casualties, admittedly not like NO, but Charlotte County Florida is around 150k, sarasota around 400k and Tampa St. Pete much much larger.
So far the reaction by the Federal Government has been decidedly less.
Stop defending them please.
EDIT: And yes they ultimately have fucked up in their response to Charlie, just without the scale and racial overtones.

Except maybe General Honore.
Re-read my posts if you have to.
I'll entertain any opinions contrary to mine, and admit any of mine that are wrong, but don't you DARE try tell me I'm defending the government here. Them there would be fightin' words.
All I'm saying is the the bureaucrats who work for the Federal Government are too stupid an hidebound to be part of any kind of conspiracy or Grand Plan. Is that simple enough for you? They're too dumb.
Any kind of Big Plan would require the people involved to be intelligent enough to see it through. So far, we (and, for a miracle, the MSM) have caught them on every single hamfisted move they've made.
Therefore, no Big Plan.

22. You don't give anyone the credit for being truly despicable? |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 09:33 PM by JanMichael
Oh well, life must be pretty easy for you then. And it really doesn't take a "Grand Plan" to be simple non-caring rascist assholes, like they obviously are (ever look at their quotes about poor people???) and incompetant too.
In other words Criminal Neglect. Doesn't need a flippin' "Grand Plan" just criminals who neglect the needy for any reason, including race and class.
I should add that in a sense you do defend rascists, with conjecture (Or excusing them of those things) on anything accusing them of truly discusting deeds repeatedly (One which somehow drew a belated "apology"?) why? I have no idea...
As for "fighting words" bite me:-)

Ciao.
Edit: So the fuck WHAT if you aren't "White"? That doesn't mean that Racist shit doesn't occur everywhere every day and especially in N.O..
What are ya'? A fucking expert witness now on everything?

25. I run a resort in the Keys and we get a lot of visitors from the |
|
Florida mainland. I have heard nothing but horror stories from these people, on both the east and west coast of the state. The bushes showed up early for photo ops and then after they left, little help was provided. I visited the west coast in the spring and it appeared that nothing had been touched. So to say that such a remarkable job was done in Florida...that hasn't been my experience.
