RIP Fred.
Never heard of him? In 1998 Fred, a crusty old farmer with a Vermont accent you could cut with a knife, ran as a write-in in the repub primary for the US Senate. He spent $16.10 and beat wealthy carpetbagger from Mass businessman, Jack McMullan. After winning, he promptly endorsed Pat Leahy. It was a case of life imiitating art. Fred was the star of John O'brien's 1996 lark of a movie "Man with a Plan" about- what else- an old Vermont farmer who runs for Congress. (Only in the movie, he wins) Thanks for the entertainment, Fred.
Now for humor in Vermont politics, all we have left is Repub right wing transsexual Karen Kerin, who ran against Bernie.

1. We spread Fred one last time - :-) |
|
I had a hell of a time understanding why he gave me a bumper sticker that said "spread Fred" - but he seemed to think it made sense.
He was a nice kind man who will be missed.

3. I think that was "Captain" Tuttle... |
|
I'm forgetting what he looked like.
Is that the same Tuttle of Tuttle publishing? I think that was a company from Rutland, VT. They have a lot of books about Japan.
