I'd expect a 3rd grade class to elect Ah-nuld, or Bugs Bunny or Spiderman |
|
Governor or president - but voting age ADULTS?? WTF??
Any grown person that truly believes that a steriod filled exhibitionist - one whose "celebrity" status now depends upon an "acting" career of two decades, in which he's managed to convincingly play a grand total of ONE role - that being a friggin' monotone robot - is somehow in 2 months going to master the intricacies of planning out and authoring a workable budget for the world's 5th largest economy, at a critical moment in the nation's most populated state's history - when it is severly hampered by a seriously dangerous deficit - is either a)certifiably insane, b) could easily be declared incompetent, or c)has managed to become so grossly uninformed as to have effectively achieved the status of either a) or b)!!
I don't know where I read this comment - it could have been on the DU - where someone posed the question, "my God - what next? Are they gonna run Charlton Heston - whom I am sure would win - even though he has Alzheimer's!"
We are truly a nation with a childish, moronic, uniformed/misinformed, boob-tube educated, celebrity obsessed, easily hoodwinked, superficial, prone to prejudice, head-stuck-in-the-sand, nitwit ignoramus eclectorate - an obviously big problem for any democracy - and arguably an even more daunting problem for this nation than the incredibly evil BFEE/PNAC Mob!!!

softening up the electorate to accept a benign amiability over qualifications -- Reagan, Quayle, Dubya, and now Arnie -- while an ever more sycophantic media sings hosannahs to the quality of their "character." I swear, one day a Chauncy Gardener or Forrest Gump is just gonna blunder into the presidency and be remembered as the greatest helmsman in the history of the republic.

I hesitate to think what citizens outside the U.S. are saying about this whole recall and governor's race fiasco. Any respect that our country held in the eyes of residents of other nations has probably dwindled down to the nano level.

9. Nano level indeed! Friends of ours that just returned to L.A. from |
|
their native countries of Spain and Britain - said that the people there were simply astonished that complete morons like Smirky and Arnold could be considered statesmen!! They really wanted to know how it could possibly even happen! My friends were really at a loss as to how to explain it - not understanding it themselves. Are truly the laughing-stock of the world (as well as the most hated and feared- thanks to the evil ChimpCo!!)!

I voted for Clinton in the 1992 fake elections my school had when I was very young. They would know better not to vote for ah-nold.

Perhaps 1st graders - down to pre-schoolers would be moved to vote for Donald Duck or Barney, or Mr T., or Ah-nold - (or even a Chimp)!

16. Good points - but ultimately we do have to blame the people who accept... |
|
The rigged elections, the corporate media - all the bullshit that is allowing our democracy to be destroyed!! WE don't accept it here - and we don't have a monopoly on the truth! The average citizen today doesn't want to be bothered with having to seek the truth. Just exactly like a child, they want to be spoon fed - and want to merely put their faith in someone or something - without having to burden themselves with worrying if that entity they've entrusted even knows what the fuck they are doing - or isn't out to completely screw the people over. It's a real peasant attitude - certainly not one befitting the world's "greatest democracy!"

14. Oh, come on. Iowa elected Gopher from the Love Boat. |
|
Fred Grandy? No political experience. Hadn't lived in Iowa for years. But people 'knew' him from Love Boat.
Funny thing was he used to get really pissed cause the elevator operators at the Capital kept jokingly asking him "Lido deck?"

If the sheeple aren't being led by the bullshit, anti-intellectual allure of celebrity - than how could they possibly be contemplating voting for a complete novice - one who dodges every question of substance??

The whole thing is so horrifying that I barely know how to react. I have heard people at work (I'm in VA) root for Arnold, and I am at a loss. Totally at a loss. Do they not know the ramifications? Do they think the guy will actually govern? Do they think everything, including their lives and the nation's future, is just a fucking MOVIE???
Jiacinto, although I agree with you that the term "sheeple" is a disparaging one, I for one have trouble even contemplating the mentality of folks like this. Their minds are such mystifying tangles of superstition, religion, murky emotions, propaganda and ignorance that it is hard to think of them as fellow beings. Dogs and cats are more rational. What DO we call them? They ARE sheep -- slaves to their own fantasies, the circus culture, immediate emotions, and leaders. When these kind of people call the shots, democracy is in true peril. We need to find out what the Europeans do to minimize the dumbass effect in their nations and do it here.
To close, I suspect the Arnold fans support him because they consider him to be a "stick in the eye" aimed at those damn libruls, who are always whining about qualifications and putting forward stiff, boring policy wonks to run for office.
