CHICAGO, IL, OCTOBER 5, 2003 – Progressive Democratic candidate Nancy Skinner received rave reviews for her performance Saturday at the U.S. Senate Candidates’ Forum sponsored by the NAACP state convention, broadcast from the WTTW-Channel 11 studios. Skinner, who joined five Democratic and five Republican hopefuls for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Peter Fitzgerald, “stole the show,” said one attendee. “She clearly was the shining star,” said Derek Moseley, leader of Bringing About Reform, who viewed the televised debate from his home Saturday night.

Skinner’s well-articulated positions on Iraq, tax cuts, and millions of lost jobs struck a chord with many audience members. In her concluding statement, she emphasized the importance of media and message and the ability to communicate ideas that resonate with the electorate.

A syndicated talk show host and frequent contributor to political discussions on major cable channels, Skinner feels that her media experience will make all the difference in her candidacy and for the party as a whole. “National politics has changed so drastically that the same campaign strategy that we have used in the past is not working for Democrats, as we have seen. We have lost the White House and Congress and the Supreme Court and the media, in my view. So, we need people in this race that know how to communicate, who know how to cut through the right wing spin on every issue, the noise and the way the issue is framed. As a political talk show host, I know how to package our message so that it makes sense. In these times, communication skills are more valuable than money and political connections.”

The Candidates’ Forum will be rebroadcast in its entirety during the week of October 13 on the Illinois Channel, Illinois’ equivalent of C-SPAN. Below is a link to the Illinois Channel’s distribution page.

1. That's great news!
I'm glad to see a candidate who is being well-received by the electorate even though she violates the "McAuliffe Mandate" to kiss-ass the mythical flighty "Swing Voters"...

Are they saying that she is "unelectable" because she's not giving props to our "Poplar Wahr-time Pretzeldent"?
No, they're not.

Go Nancy!

2. I'll take a look at it.
I'm still depressed about the Sunday radio program's demise.

5. Illinois Democrat Here...
Too bad Channel 11 didn't bother to promote it (guess no money to be made off the video sales) and the "Illinois Channel" covers according to their website "NOW IN 24 COMMUNITIES" in a state with over 100 counties. Of course it's not listed on my cable system, and I own two properties served by two different systems.

Anyway, I really would like to hear Nancy and the other candidates speak. The only ones that are "semi-visible" are Gery Chico and Blair Hull who are doing spot TV...but not much else. Too much Cubbies and Garbage strike anyway.

Are there going to be more forums? And if? When? This should be a Dem pick-up in the vital fight to retake the Senate and I really like Nancy alot, but I want to hear from all the candidates so I can choose wisely.

Thanks
