Poll question: How did you find DU |
|
I was thinking about this earlier, and I've wracked my brain but I just don't remember where I first heard about DU. (!) It has been a very long while, though. ;-) So it occurred to me that it might be interesting to do a poll. Like we don't have enough to do. :D So here it is.

1. I voted Other, but I meant "word of mouth" |
|
I was thinking about something more specific, like "I knew this person, and they said to come here" Something to that effect.

how I found the site, but it has been a sanity saver for me. I am the only one of family even remotely interested in politics so I appreciate coming here it feels like I have found a friend.I recently left(1year) a religion I had been in for 20 odd years which forbid getting involved in politics /voting. As I mentioned before this will be my first time voting.

Slow on the uptake as I am (or maybe I just surf too fast), I was reading the Top 10 Idiots for months through Buzzflash before I realized there was a whole lot more to this site.
Glad I finally noticed.

19. Frank Stein's classic post "When will someone say it" |
|
It was about the ludicrous idea that not one, but two 110 story buildings could fall within their own footprints, that four airliners could make u turns without suspicion and crash into landmarks while getting a bye from our military...etc. I just had to jump in. Whatever happened to Frank? He was one of my heroes.

as a refugee in August 2002 and have not been banned for any reason because of the simple and enforced rules here that allow for discussion of CT and other subjects not deemed politically correct elsewhere, that's just one of the reasons I support this great American political website.

I was surfing anti-Bush sites and found Hated.com, whose links have grown from the mere 15 or so they had then. One of the links was DU. I registered right away. I haven't posted much, but I'm here just about every day. I love this site.

It was Ski and Skinner in Chicago that listed DU...I've been hooked ever since my first post when I found a thread about common enemy Jay Leno.
DU is really a breath of fresh air--it's heaven to be among (mostly) like-minded people.

I was causing a shitstorm over at FreeRepublic. Someone over there said "DU Alert" after I made a comment that was not favorable about Ann Coulter's book "Treason".
I asked what DU meant, and someone told me.
I've been here ever since.

48. I was watching the funeral for democracy/inaugural parade |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 12:59 AM by Capn Sunshine
when all of a sudden there were these guys holding up a sign "democraticunderground.com" I wrote it down, and proceeded to get rip roaring drunk.
While in this sorry state, I put all the papers I had , all my "Gore won" stuff, everything, swept it up off my table in the kitchen in a catharsis, determined to start a new life, an apolitical one dedicated to filthy lucre, worship of mammon. I put my half finished diatribes against the annointed prince away, along with notes, democratic buttons, DLC letters and folders, in a box and tossed it in the corner of my library together with a bunch of fishing gear.
I escaped. For awhile. Then early on the day of my 50th birthday party, a bunch of rich Saudis crashed jets into the Trade center.
I canceled my party. I wrote a LTE about how poorly served we were by the Star wars Defense system push, and remembered a source I had in an old mgazine in a box. Rooting through it, out floated a piece of blue lined notebook paper with "democraticunderground.com" scrawled in a drunken hand.
I signed on that night after a particularly hellish day with all of our banks transactions frozen in time and space, and unable to reach anyone East of Cleveland.
I read a thread about a Yak.That was refreshingly strange. My kind of people.Sign me up.
