A few of these full of fuel in your trunk or on the roof will get you out of the trouble many in TX are facing right now.

I think i should go into the Jerry Can biz.

1. I've been curious about how safe these are to haul or store...
Can anyone comment authoritatively?

5. They are completely safe and made of metal.

Used in the Outback and all over Africa for decades as well as in WWII and subsequent wars.

Here's what i would do if i lived on the gulf and took the lessons from the last 3 weeks.

Keep 6 of them on hand and once a week, before i went to top off the car, pour one of them in the tank and then take it to the station to refill it along with the car. that way you never have gas in any one of them that is more than 6 weeks old.

You can buy holders or racks for them and they can be locked with a cable or chain.

3. I don't think that would be too safe to store or transport
plus if you plan to store it, you need stabile...and then at what point is it no longer any good?

6. I have 30 gallons worth in cans here too (i live in florida)
I have a rack for my car to attach them if needed to transport them. They are DOT approved steel containers, and I feel safer on the top of my car as the 15 gals on the bottom of my car 9" off the road..

7. jeebus, its gasoline not nitroglycerine!
it's not very dangerous to store or transport gasoline. even spilled, it generally will only burn, not explode. if the air to fuel ratio is perfect, 14:1, a slight spark can cause it to explode, but as someone who works around gasoline all the time, it doesn't happen very much. and as far as longevity, even old gas will still burn, your car may not run perfect, but it will likely run good enough to get you where you're going. take the above poster's advice and rotate stock periodically.
