Is America ready for a "uniter" ?
Someone who will challenge the Democrats and Republicans to stand up. We are all in this together. This is our nation. And we all have a duty to protect her. Let's stop the partisan bickering and the division. Put your Party labels aside and let's do what is right for America. We are going in the wrong direction and we need to make a change. Let's work together.

Would this be a winning message for the next president?

1. I think we are ready...

for anyone that qualifies as smart.

On edit: The Dems can become a revolutionary force in this country if they would simply step up. Energy, Poverty, the Environment, are all areas crying for improvement. Will they speak in a unified voice?

2. No. I think Americans are ready for the anti-Bush, but gay marriage....
gay marriage is THE hot button issue that R's will use.

7. but what would an "anti-bush" be in reality?
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 07:46 AM by bullimiami
when I say bush I mean bfee of course because he is only a small but nasty figurehead.

bush is petty
bush is a liar
bush believes in imperial government
bush is vindictive
bush is hateful
bush is a killer
bush thinks the us treasury is his

I could go on and on im sure but I dont see an 'anti bush' as being about hot button issues but instead

magnanimous, honest, governing for the masses, even handed, fair minded, loathe to use deadly force, equitable in budgeting.

and of course they need to stand loudly for their principals and not be shy in speaking truth to power.

that might be interpreted as "soft on republicans."

6. True. It would not sell well with DUers and activists....
But in the big picture, I think it would be successful.

11. Surprise - even in the SF Bay Area
Outside of some neighborhoods in each of Marin, San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland -- DUers are a fringe group within the Progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

DUers are less then 5% of our Progressive Club.

And a reason not to continue this charade. We just need to open the door. I think the politician that can best verbalize and communicate the above message will be the one to sweep out the Republicans and will give the Democrats the best chance to win back the Congress and Senate. Republicans thrive on division. If we take that away from them, they stand naked.

8. Not Sure of this Uniting Strategy
Even here at DU we seem to be intolerant of even other Dems with any view point that doesn't line up with the general expectation. We are as partisan as the right wingers. A "Uniter undoubtedly would hold some opinions that disagreed with each of these political wings and I don't see that being a winning formula. For the record, I do not expect politicians I support to hold to 100% of my views. Let's stop demeaning Dems we liked last week because they made a decision this week that we disagree with!!!!!!!!!!!!

9. I'm not sure there is much that is done on the national level
The Republicans would smear Mother Theresa if she ran as a Democrat. You have to take that as a given.

I'm not convinced that the 2004 election was stolen but it certainly wouldn't be the first stolen presidential election. I'm not sure it wasn't stolen either. But if it was stolen it was stolen the same way elections are always stolen--locally.

All politics are local. The answer is that each of us has to work our local party. There wouldn't be Diebold machines if we didn't allow them. There wouldn't be corruption if we ferreted it out and didn't allow it.

But I don't think there is a solution for partisan bickering. On another board someone asked the question: what would you dictate if you could impose your will and you only had 1 command? One of the pukes proposed a poll tax. There is no end to partisan bickering with someone like that.

I haven't decided what my command would be. I'm thinking right now it would be no smearing.

10. Not possible anymore
I think the country is so polarized that we'll be lucky to find unity within our respective parties....
