Just logged on. I find it odd that I'm not extremely angry over the recall situation.
It seems to me that a great many of the American people have become intellectually lazy and idle. Thanks to this sorry state of affairs, we're getting government straight from the movies and television.
Arnold is the corporate candidate, an Enron Boy if there ever was one. He fits perfectly with Shrub, Jeb and the rest of the PNACer's.
The one bright spot I see in all this is the fact that Arnold will actually have to govern. He'll either have to raise taxes or cut California's service programs to the bone.
It's going to have to get very bad before folks wake up. Looks like it's actually going to happen, because I think the PNAC prescription for America is disastrous.
And good night to you, sir.

11. George W Bush is a traitor. |
|
The Little Turd from Crawford knew about 9-11 and he didn't do anything to stop the attacks. He HAS done a whole lot to stop any investigation of the attacks, however.
Bushler declared war on a country with which we were at peace and invaded that nation on the basis of a lie, killing thousands of innocent people and hundreds of America's best men and women.
When a diplomat exposed that lie publicly, Bush ordered the man's wife to be outed as a CIA operative. That not only endangered an innocent woman's life, it compromised the national security interests of the United States.
That is all treasonable. Bush should be put under arrest, tried and convicted. Oh yeah — use the prosecutorial guidelines under the USA PATRIOT Act.

is. And how this is just exactly like Florida again. I think that when the stories start pouring out about how it was impossible to vote because the polling places had been moved without notification and there was inadequate personnel at the polling places. That people were in fact prevented from voting (I think we will be hearing about this having happened). That there will be a lot of "irregularities" in the vote counts for different counties and therefore the election results will be in dispute.
Oh well, California didn't want its $9 billion back from Enron anyway.
edit: this just makes me so mad I can't even type.

It's just the smoldering corpse of our Democracy...
I realize it is illogical but I wish I could draft a new California law making it illegal for any woman who voted for Arnold to ever file a sexual harrassment charge.
If you are a woman and you voted for this man (with all that we know) you have completely sold out your gender.
I'm so depressed.

16. No but instead of placing blame on a clearly rigged process, |
|
and deriding those that have done the research. Carlos would rather Blame Naders dick than to admit that the system is rigged, and not in his favor. But he will start threads like http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=489448|"Will the BBV folks be screaming stolen election">as further proof that Nader's dick is the reason, and not the RIGGED voting machines...Care to Comment Carlos?

Bev - I'm in Marin as well.
Just to confirm, they have AccuVote scanners with "bubble" ballots and marking pens. It is connected to a phone line - I saw the line.
There was an earlier email (referencing Alameda County) concerning whether precincts should/would/could post precint totals. I do see that you were copied on that mail, perhaps you know the one to which I refer.
I asked if the precint volunteers were planning to post such totals, they assured me they would not. All they would tell me was that at 8PM the scanner would be connected via modem to the County offices and gather the totals - and that the absentee ballots (inserted in the side of the base of the unit) would be hand-counted.
Does anyone have any ideas on where these "rovers" will be found? In a van outside the precinct? Walking into the polling place? Any idea of what we are looking for?
Someone I know from a local peace & justice org is an election volunteer, working at the precinct where I vote. I may be able to tell her what we are looking for if we can narrow in on this.
GregD
According to the memos, there are as many concerns with security of the optical scan data as with the touch screens. In fact, it is a huge mistake to focus on the touch screens only. What we should be focusing on is the audit.
These three concerns pop up from reading the memos:
1) Uploading replacement vote data -- there are many references to this. 2) Intercepting and transmitting vote data by cell phone and cell phone connected to laptops. Where in the world is THIS certified and approved? I agree with Tom Flocco that if this is done, it needs a whole bunch more controls. Remember that changing the vote reports is only one problem with this. Another is obtaining illicit intelligence on how the vote is going. 3) Messing with GEMS, the central count program
Until we properly audit the optical scan machines (the ones where you fill in the bubble, which we currently do not allow much counting of the paper ballots, or even looking at them -- basically, it's against the law to count the paper ballots except in very limited circumstances) -- well until we audit optical scans properly, they are almost as vulnerable as touch screens.
Bev Harris
wireless can be acessed from 300 feet or more depending on the antena. the voting machine does not have to be connected to a phone line if the wireless is enabled. If it is enabled it takes about 5 to 8 minutes to crack wep, the most commonly used encryption used in wireless, the tools to do so are available for free on the internet and are perfectly legal. These tools are used by network administrators daily. For an eye opener read "Hack Proofing Your Wireless Network" chapter 4.
I am in Florida and I am aware of how the 2000 election was stolen you people in the rest of the country don't know half of what went on here. For example six us mail trays of absentee votes turned in by the Republican party in Seminole County in violation of state law. These were counted.
Carlso have you even read the material? Are you an expert programmer? Can you say for certain the machines are not rigged?

|
on Arnold's win...When we all know the fix was in a log long time ago. He refuses to see it though, you can kill the messenger Carlos but you can't kill the message. The machines are rigged and so was the entire process. But you haven't read all the information have you? Nor have you talked to the people we have. So unless you can state for a fact the machines are not rigged and back it up, I would suggest you stop throwing conspiracy theorist around mkay?

I have to stop reading DU and caring so much about politics. I have a fishing show on the tube while typing right now. I think I will watch it and go to bed.
Actually, Jiacinto, I appreciate you thoughtful analyses and will look forward to your thoughts on this in the coming days. Some of your posts are very thoughtful and I appreciate your knowledge of polls and their meaning.
Take care, and I will be looking for your posts in the future.
