Arnold winning is not that bad for us in '04 |
|
Face it, if Arnold would not have run, and it was another moderate republican. Davis would still be in office. It sucks, but Arnold brought out the idiot masses to vote for him. They were not necessarily republican. I'll bet 30-35% of the people who voted for him don't even know the difference between a republican and a democrat. So don't lose sleep thinking we will lose in '04.

and with a democratic congress and Lt.Gov to deal with, Swarzenegger is not in an enviable position right now.

Good to hear you say it, though. The gloom is palpable here, and regardless of the impact, the damned thing's happened and we have to continue on from here.
That doesn't mean that the results should be gone over and any action that's justified shouldn't be taken, but it is what it is.
It could work out well; he could try drastic things that tar the Republicans as the greedheads that they are. He (and Wilson et al.) may be dogged by scandals from the Enron fleecing.
He may be impotent and he may piss off the conservatives and the moderates and STILL not manage to get anything done. He may have conflicts with his handlers in Washington. Who knows?
Maybe we just have to take another one in the face and still come back and stomp on the '04 election. Regardless, it'll be interesting.

to try and make every state GOP. But I, too, think this will backfire. For one thing, Ahnold is 'liberal' on social issues relating to choice and gays. Anything he does on those issues is sure to infuriate the right wingers. I sure hope that the Dems in the legislature dig in their heels and don't let him do things to ruin the state, but do let the people of CA know what he's trying. And I hope the LA Times and other papers keep digging into his sordid past. This has got to make at least some of the conservatives, who have always touted 'family values' squirm (and if they scream it is unfair to call character into account, ask them why it was fair to do the same with Clinton). Finally, I do think that the people who voted for "The Terminator" will maybe finally awaken to the fact that AS is not his character, and that problems in real life aren't solved the way they are in the movies once Ahnold starts messing things up royally.

4. Cally sets the pace to recall Bush in '04 |
|
Ok, so Arnold won - it was pretty much a forgone conclusion when the fund raising scandal hit Cruz. He'll probably pull a Jesse Ventura and be recalled or be hugely unpopular before long.
But, more importantly and to our favor, if a state can (in less than a year) flip/flip on a clearly elected Governor to put in a bad actor just think what the rest of America can do to * four years after his 'election'. Again, California shows US the way and we can look forward to the Dem nominee (regardless of who it is) to recall the White House back.
Dude, I want my country back.
