Calling for a loud, ugly, concentrated boycott of the Tonight Show |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 08:54 AM by blondeatlast
Make the bastard pay for his endorsement of his piggish, incompetent friend. We can do this but it will take time and effort. It's more than just not watching, it's letters, talking to the media, you know the drill.
I'm in, are you?
Edit: besides, there has got to be somebody better than Leno out there--consider it a public service!

6. I don't watch it already... |

...but I think what you're proposing would be spun as "sore losers' weak, patheritc attempt at political retribution", and (of course) "liberal double standard" (for objecting to similar protest boycotts of Barbara Streisand, Martin Sheen, and the Dixie Chicks).
If you're going to make late-night TV shows a battleground, then just ignore Jay and boost John Stuart's ratings.

15. It's about the free publicity |
|
The other candidates never had a chance anyway with the publicity AS got from Leno, Oprah, et al. Even Huffington couldn't come close and she IS the media.
We can't let it happen again, and if we let it slide, I guarantee it will. I don't care if we're seen as whiners be SOME; if anyone thinks I'm afraid of Bill O'Rielly, think again.

7. Jay Leno's misogyny has at last been unmasked. |
|
I'm not attacking Mavis Leno here, who has been a true advocate for women, but Chin Boy's stance has been revealed once and for all. To countenance the control-freak, openly misogynistic Schwarzenegger pretty much changes the equation. Leno's just as vicious as the rest of the women-bashers.

Leno's support of the Groper, in light of allegations of sexual misconduct levied against him, stands in stark contrast of his wife's attempts to advocate for women's rights doesn't it? Wonder how that works for her?

I couldn't stand her before but after she had that repuke pig and his wife on, she did a huge disservice to women everywhere!
Edited to add: Sorry, Progressive1, I didn't see your post until after I posted mine!

10. Far be it for me to judge but.... |
|
Wouldn't your time be better spent working the phones for voter registration, or for a particular candidate, or even just for the democratic party in your state/county? And if you do this stuff already aren't there better things you could devote your time to?
Honestly things like boycots just seem so counterproductive. There are so many more effective things that can be done at a local level.
I mean if it's what you want to do then I have no problem with it. I just don't like to see people get frustrated over things like this.

i don't watch leno anyways. but not much point in boycotting as it wont help us, and might actually help the other side as most people like leno, or at least don't hate him and will just view those boycotting in a negative way. i think it would be better to get our message out starting now. we don't have the media as right wingers do so we have to work harder. bill clinton overcame the media whores attacks on him because he had a personality that overcame any of the whores attacks on him. but all dems don't have that, especially gray davis. so they need to reach as many people as they can during times when there are no campaigns or elections coming up. to just keep in touch with them would help to get their support when needed.

13. Screw television anyhow |
|
... television is part of what caused millions of dumb Californians to run out and vote for a fellow bonehead without a plan. Your television set is one of the greatest weapons in the arsenal of the corporate propagandists who revise reality and dupe the easily-led into voting against their own economic interests. If people had to read and think for themselves elections would be decided differently.
I watch a tiny handful of shows, mute ALL the commercials, and shut the set off after my program is over. The only time you'll ever catch me idly channel surfing is when I'm drunk and feel like bitching to the wife: "Yeah, honey, there still ain't nothing but shit on this stupid television!"
Otherwise my TV is nothing other than a display terminal for my VCR and DVD player. I control the content, not the other way around.

For a couple years I tuned out of Dave's show...they were getting stale, but since 9/11 and his heart surgery, something is brewing inside Dave.
Lately the show is getting more and more open in it's contempt of the manchild. There's the "George Bush Joke That Isn't A Joke" virtually every night and one evening he ran several. He also takes several good shots in his monologue and the Top 10 list has always his stalking horse to blow shit at the world...as well as his excellent writers.
Also Dave always books liberal guests like Franken or Robin Williams or Wanda Sykes and lets them go crazy. When Franken was on, Dave lofted him softballs to bash O'Reilly.
Leno tried to play both sides of the fence (calling himself "Independent"...yeah that's now blown to hell). I also gave him the benefit of the doubt thanks to the great works of his wife anad his support for her causes. He has done a few shots at Bush, but his Clinton and Gore bashing has never stopped. I'll scan for Headlines, but I can't respect Leno anymore...friend or no friend. He has to know what message this is sending across the country to the many who are offended the oaf got his jump start on his show and now Leno playing MC at the Bongo & Cigars party.
Leno lost a longtime fan once and for all last night.

Leno is SOOOOO unfunny. The only thing I like is the thing where they go out and ask people simple questions to show how STUPID Californians are. That was proven YET AGAIN yesterday.
