Promo for Frontline fall season last night
Really looks good. The O.J Simpson Verdict Tues., night. Also another story on the Abu Ghraib prison torture scandal coming up this fall. I don't think the right wing can dictate to Frontline, they will take their program and walk.

1. Well, then, they may indeed walk. PBS is now run by the GOP. NT

3. Frontline Is Produced By WGBH
The Boston Public TV station and one of the most liberal. CPB provides only a fraction of the funding of the show (look at the list of major underwriters at the start of the show). PBS provides the show to its affiliates and its one of the network's most popular shows (meaning it brings in donations to member stations).

While I don't like the GOOP shift on the PBS board, I think this is more to gut it financially rather than in the program area...that would come later. To a certain degree some reforming of how the network is funded and operated is long overdue...but that's a different area.

The ultimate decision to air the shows belong to the individual PBS stations. PBS viewers by nature are more educated and tend to be more "liberal" and much more supportive of their local PBS stations. Shows like Frontline are ones the draw big donations. Until Repugnicans can draw the same kind of money PBS stations will air Frontline and the show will remain very independent and a hallmark of broadcast investigative journalism.

Maybe the new PBS board members will find a way to turn Monster Truck pulls into money makers.

2. It's not a bet I would be inclined to take
"I don't think the right wing can dictate to Frontline, they will take their program and walk."

Maybe I'm a pessimist but I wouldn't count out the right wingers ability to influence Frontline content.

I'm not sure how Frontline is organized. Does anyone know if works like a network news-magazine (60 Mins., 20/20) where Frontline editors determine content or does Frontline simply pick up independently produced shows?

Either way, I'm looking forward to hard hitting shows like, "Wal-Mart, Why it's the best place in America to work", and some more shows on genetically engineered foods that are strikingly similar in tone and content to the documentaries from the 1950's promoting the brave new world of nuclear energy.

4. FRONTLINE is Awesome and essentially a local program done good.
The GOP will never control FRONTLINE until they gain control of Boston, which ain't gonna' happen.

I'm so sick of this "The GOP controls the PBS..." BullSh*t, I watch PBS all the time and have seen only minor changes over the last few years.

BTW, I posted about the great Saturday night they had this weekend here: <http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4948235&mesg_id=4948235>
