Reid isn't exactly liberal or progressive!! |
|
I keep seeing all of these posters (and bloggers) taking a sigh of relief because Harry Reid says that he thinks Miers is a good candidate....
WELL, Harry Reid isn't exactly our most liberal/progressive Democrat! He's against abortion, against gay marriage, etc! He had originally proposed that Bush appoint someone like Lindsay Graham, Mel Martinez and other anti-abortion Republicans to fill Sandra Day O'Connor's slot.

2. He's a Dino and should be chucked. |

I've always felt that way. But the Dino appologists are in high gear here today (along with a ton of stealth Freeptards)

8. And yet there is that Howard Dean guy. |

It seems to me that the party is pretty split. Between the beltway everything is fine crowd and the responsible, people powered, goverment crowd.

5. No DINOs should be chucked. |
|
We need all the Dems. Just because they don't vote like you would--and believe me, many do not vote like I would either--doesn't mean that they should be (as you say) chucked. May I point out to people here that chucking CongressCritters with a big D after their name usually results in a CongressCritter with a big R.
DINOs still caucus with the Dems, and count for the balance of power in Congress. In case you're missing the point here, we need the DINOs, and all the rest of the Dems, to take back the Congress.
So let's have no more talk about chucking Dems. The Democratic Party has to remain a large tent. That's a winning strategy for 2006.

6. Yeah we need them, but they don't seem to be there for us. |

Reid is approving of an obvious Bush crony? WTF?
How can we take back Congress if people keep thinking that the Democrats are Republican-lites?
I work in an office where I'm the only one brave enough to be an out of the closed liberal. There are two more liberals (making a total of 3 liberals in an office of 20) who are terrified of the other 17 registered Republicans. I know the nature of the Republican voter (well here in the urban North, I can't say for other areas) and let me tell you, what I've learned from talking to these people.
The majority of them dislike Bush: They think he's a politician who's dirtier than dirt. They think he's a big government tool who is a danger to himself and others. But, (and here's the important part), he's easily controlled by the party. So he will, at least, reduce the tax burden on their already considerable paychecks (these guys are commodity traders) earning them more money for less work.
They've also confided in me that, if the Democrats could give them a message that they can understand, they'd totally vote for Democrats (provided they can still get tax relief). And if the Democrats are going to look like Republicans, why should they vote for them when they can vote for the real thing? And besides, they tell me, why should they vote for a party that doesn't have balls? Republicans, at least, can be trusted to 'stick to their guns' -- They like that kind of stuff.
So the votes can, easily, be there if the Dems do a few simple things.
1) Grow some balls and stand up for what they believe in. 2) Stick to the fight no matter what the score. (Republicans love sports analogies) 3) Have a clear, easy to digest central message that sets them apart from all other parties. 4) Prove to Americans, that being a Democrat is a very American thing to do. (tied to #1 above)
I don't see Reid doing any of those things.

7. Reid pulled a good one this morning. |

You have to think a little about these things before you jump to confusions.

It bothers me that he immediately expresses support for this candidate. Just because someone appears nice is no reason to express support before her record has been examined.

9. Yeah, he isn't fringe left, |
|
but he's smarter and more cunning than just about anybody else in Congress.
He battled the Mafia and his father-in-law, and therefore he can handle the Bush gang.
