CNN's Jean Meserve pointing out section of NO not searched for bodies |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 10:48 AM by highplainsdem
Interviewing someone who said that even though the govt claims the homes have been searched and they "just ran out of paint" to mark them, he can smell the bodies as he goes past the homes, and there are other indications that the homes haven't been searched. This is in the 9th Ward, a section with over 100 homes.

Gawd knows I wouldn't defend FEMA.
However, I did read yesterday that residents coming back to New Orleans were beginning to deal with refrigerators and freezers that had sat for a month in high temperatures.
I'm guessing that some of the smells may be due to that. I can't recall where I read the article- it was either CNN or MSNBC- but one doctor was quoted as saying that the stench from the rotting food was worse than any smell from the autopsies he'd performed on bodies that had been found floating at the height of summer (in whatever city he happened to be working in -- he wasn't commenting on the floating bodies from New Orleans).

14. Would they notice the smell of spoiled food if the freezers and |
|
refrigerators were still closed? I remember a story about a restaurant owner who needed a gas mask while cleaning up his restaurant, but I was assuming he noticed the smell only when the appliances were opened, when he started to clean.

After a month, yeah. Plus, some of the appliances were likely upended in the flood waters, opening some of the doors.
Honestly, it isn't a smell I'd like to experience.

28. Not a pleasant thought, but... |
|
after this length of time (actually a much shorter length of time), appliance doors could very well have "exploded" with the swelling of the rotting food.

30. the smell from those is only when they are open |
|
- 15 years in property management - and I can state that with a clear conscience - I always looked forward to the day that I didn't have to open the refrigerator ever again - it never happened.
You could walk into a "ready" unit and not know if the fridge was clean without opening the door - it had to be done just to make certain there wasn't something rotting in there.

The doctor may be correct in that the stench from the food was worse...but the smells are completely different.

Well of course my dear you are not smelling dead bodies it is the rotten peas, now, now, don't trouble your pretty little head about it. It is all over now and you need to think happy thoughts and stop fretting about FEMA withholding help, all those dead people (they did bad things don't you know) and the nobid contracts. ARGGGGGGGG!

and who cares about poor people anyway, they're not worth counting when you run out of paint. Don't want to tip the dead body count over 1,000+ in NO. The governments of this country become more disgraceful and disgusting with each day.

|
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 12:35 PM by OneBlueSky
first they let hundreds, likely thousands, of poor people either drown or suffocate by not sending in an army of rescuers with axes and chainsaws to open every residential attic within days of the flood . . . now they ignore the remains of the people they killed, because they're only poor and black and not really worth the effort, don'tcha know . . .
it really IS inhuman . . . seems the true meaning of compassionate conservatism really is "kill 'em all and let God sort it out" . . .

Michael Moores letter today? He has been in New Orleans for a month and he says that lots of people still have not seen FEMA or Red Cross......it's as if Katrina victimes are no longer important.( I read that Hurricane Andrew had 28,000 destroyed and Katrina had 350,000......)it shows you what type of society we are....on to the next non story....don't want KATRINA NEWS ....it just reminds us all of all the fuck ups.....we should be demanding the media to cover it! They are still chasing that friggin Aruba story!!Katrina news would remind people that there are people who still need help and lots of it and remind them that the government is not taking care of you!!!!

35. Huge missing persons lists |
|
Very few people are calling in to clear names from the lists now. There is no centralized list. No money has been spent to try to consolidate and cross reference the lists. No efforts have been made to remove duplicate record or collect information for incomplete records. No follow-up calls have been made to clear names.
The government is AWOL. The amount of money the government has spent on this is about $0.00.
