Too bad for Bono, but what a nice slap in the face to the NeoCons. They hate ElBaradei. He's all about using diplomacy and constructive dialogue to solve problems. They hate that shit.

What has Bono done to further World Peace?
Not that the ending of world poverty isn't a laudable goal, but it's not a qualification for a peace prize in my, and the Nobel committee's, opinion.

10. Check out what Paul O'Neil has to say about him in |
|
"The Price of Loyalty" - P.O. was surprised by Bono's intelligence and ideas on how providing the resources for countries to have safe, clean water really could have a good PR effect for the US.
Unless you're talking about the waitress that turned schtupping a failed 60s rock legend into a congressional seat . . .

5. You mean you honestly thought Bono was going to win? |

That's the oldest publicity stunt in the book. Bono's name was tossed in just to attract media attention that the name El Baradei never could.

8. Nah. Really doesn't mean that much to me |
|
But I don't think he's a phony like so many stars who front for causes. Which doesn't qualify him for a Nobel, to be sure, but I hope his being a star didn't count against him.

6. I bet that Bono will win sometime in his life |
|
between his work with world poverty issues as well as his work with the peace process in Ireland he has a chance to be a Nobel Peace Prize recipient in his life time.
I do have to agree with one of the other posters though, I don't think he really cares about winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Yeah, we wouldn't want someone who's worked hard on the ground all his life to win over a fucking pop star...

11. Guess you're a bit uninformed in what Bono has done. |
|
Heck, music has become almost a sideline to his work.

13. No, I'm aware of what Bono has done. |

But "almost a sideline" to making music, playing concerts and advertising iPods doesn't quite top doing it for a full-time job.
In any instance where you can find a pop/movie celebrity that's taken up a cause, you can find literally hundreds of individuals who have done literally 20 times more and who get paid literally hundreds of times less. I'm not saying its a bad thing that artists take up causes, but to award prestigious prizes to them over the professionals seems laughable to me.

He's a multi-millionaire who seemingly has the adoration of half the planet for his crappy overrated records (sorry, bit partisan there :)). He doesn't need a Nobel prize.
I don't imagine ElBaradei lives in squalor, but still.
