They're the source of so much unintentional humor. I was over on cnn.com reading about how Harriet Miers much overcome the "Souter Factor," a reference to Associate Justice David Souter, appointed by Bush Sr., but who turned out to be a liberal Justice.
So the criteria is, "We much appoint a flaming asshole to the court, but it must also be a flaming asshole entirely incapable of ever formulating a rational thought."
Christ, you already found your perfect candidate, but you sent him to the White House!

What enrages right wing loonies is the threat that Harriet might actually be impartial as she says she'll be and as sane Americans think a Supreme Court justice is supposed to be.
And Chimpy is trying to tell Americans not to worry because the fix is in....
I can't imagine either part of that is sitting well with the general public.
Roberts made much the same sort of "I'm impartial" noises as Harriet is doing....but right wingers knew Judge Frenchfry was lying.
Did you see David Frum, who used to work for Chimpy as a speechwriter, complaining publicly that Chimpy has never had good judgement in picking people?
