An anti-Harriet Miers thread
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 11:38 AM by Democrats_win
You prepare for your open-heart operation and the first face you see is newly appointed doctor Miers. She studied biology and dissected a frog, but that's it.

Now imagine the unthinkable, she's been appointed to be one of the nine highest judges in the country and she's never been a judge before.

What must the judges who've spent 30 years on the bench think?

Meritocracy? Only for the poor not for legacy boys like bush.

4. Except that the analogy for a Republican open-heart surgeon
is an open-heart surgeon who hates healthy, beating hearts, and wants us to go back to 'original intent' of doctors to 'get the demons out'. Who believes that 'strict constructionism' of the medical Constitution, the hypocratic oath, shouldn't deviate from 'god's will' of who should die naturally. Who wants to destroy the credibility of two-hundred years of advancement in cardio-vascular surgery. That's the analogy to a right-wing Supreme Court justice.

You are giving the argument that angry right-wing extremists are giving - that she isn't qualified, presumably like Clarence Thomas was qualified. Which is a lie, like virtually everything that comes out of a right-wing mouth. These wingers couldn't care less about qualifications; they want someone who is right-wing insane no matter her bona fides. In fact, I'm sure they'd be most comfortable with an extreme righty that knows nothing about, and has no allegiance to, the law. When you fight these people, you have to go into the intellectual gutter with them. It's unavoidable. So I don't care about her qualifications either, like them despite their phony protestations. If she seems moderate, then I too will support her.

I'm watching that dildo Frum on CSPAN as I write, and as with the other wingers I've seen talking about Miers, it couldn't be clearer how much these right-wingers absolutely hate this nomination. They hate her nomination and it has nothing to do with her 'qualifications', so that makes me automatically a default Miers supporter until I hear her testimony and it turns me away.
