Encampment at the White House: October 12th-November 2nd

Unlike the last "encampment" in DC, this one is for real. I don't know how DU feels about the group World Can't Wait, because of their certain ties, but they are certainly willing to do things which other groups haven't pushed for yet.

I'm semi-involved with the World Can't Wait branch in the Twin Cities. None of us have any official WCW ties, we're just organizing a joint protest in solidarity with them on November 2nd.

"Join us at an encampment in Lafayette Park, as close as we can get to the White House. Taking heart and inspiration from Cindy Sheehan's heroic stand at Camp Casey, a rotating and growing gathering of voices of conscience will enumerate all the reasons this regime must go. We will count down to November 2nd. On October 12, our banner will go up in front of the White House: "21 days till the beginning of the end of the Bush Regime" and our Call will be on display. November 2nd, the anniversary of the so‑called re-election of Bush, will be the day when history starts to change. Finally!"

1. Not familiar with this group.
May I ask what the "certain ties" are that you alluded to?

4. some of their leaders have tied to the RCP
I hope that people here don't misjudge them simply because of the word "communist" though. Check out their website, it's very good and informative.

5. It's not people here using the word "communist" you need to worry about -
It's the press. Who may well discredit the entire effort with that word.

2. This notice is cutting it close
for out-of-stater's to coordinate attendance. I support all anti-bush/war peace protest activities and desire to participate in as many as possible. Early preparation is essentially needed for me....

3. this encampment notice is cutting it close
although their plans for protests on November 2nd have been up for a while. They are a relatively new group. There were a few posts about them during the summer, if I remember correctly. They had a really big presence in DC and the other big protests on the 24th. I don't think it was possible for people in DC on the 24th to not see their signs. I was pretty impressed.
