I Hate To Say This, But If Cheney Goes, We're Screwed |
|
Bush will nominate Rice, Guiliani or *shudder* Romney, who will then be a SITTING VICE PRESIDENT in 08 and almost impossible to beat.
I am hoping Fitzgerald goes after Rove, Libby, etc but does not take Cheney down.
Of course, if he takes shrub down WITH Cheney, I'm fine with that.
I just want these monsters OUT in 08, and whatever enables that process to happen smoothly...

Nixon did it with Ford after Agnew resigned. And Ford appointed Rockefeller.

but incumbents ALWAYS have an advantage over their opponent. Name recognition, media savvy, etc, etc., all come into play in our sham of an election process (the sheeple don't actually care about issues, or so it would seem).
If Cheney goes down however, I think that will too big a hit to the Repub reputation, and '08 would be ours to lose!

certainly wasn't impossible to beat in '76 under somewhat similar circumstances, and he actually got to be president for a while. Al Gore wasn't impossible to beat (although he was cheated, it was still close enough to allow them to cheat) Neither was Humphrey in '68 or Nixon in '60. I don't think historically being vice president has been much of an advantage.

for the GOP. If it escalated to the point that Cheney has to resign (which I have serious doubts about), the new VP has to serve in a scandal-ridden WH for the next 3-3.5 years. It's going to taint him/her in 2008.
We've seen all the potential GOP candidates for 2008 distancing themselves from Bushco in some form or another. They're rats fleeing a sinking ship.

a vote if the right wing still control the votes. They stole in 00-02-04.
All is talk:
. if we continue to allow them to furnish their unvetted, un regulated Republican hardware, software, and technicians - . if we allow their right wing networks to pay for the exit polls and then trust that right wing networks are not going to manipulate the vote in consort with the right wing - . if we allow right wing networks to call the vote - . unless we ensure that voters are unobstructed in getting to the polls and unless we assure their names are not purged.
All is nothing unless we wrench control of voting away from the right wing and place it in back of non-traitors.
Who are you going to trust?
Paper trails ARE NOT GOING TO DO IT!
Incumbents are irrelevant if citizens don't control the voting.
We are fools and suckers if we let it happen again in '06 or '08.

If Cheney goes down, it'll taint the entire party. I don't see Bush becoming wildly popular again or see any VP he picks being popular. All of the candidates you mention aren't squeaky clean like Ford. VP candidates usually have to be confirmed by huge majorities like Ford. We've only had two sitting VP's win the presidency so it won't be impossible. It'll be ok eventually.
