Natural Gas production has peaked in North America. Oil production peaked in the US in 1970/71. Global oil production is peaking soon. It is impossible to really expand an economy when the energy supply to it is not expanding.

They've adjusted over the years in managing to control the emerging energy sources. Why aren't they going after the alternative fuels? Too much investment required?
If we lost all technology tomorrow, it's hard to imagine this greedy, thirsty class having any trouble controlling the mechanisms of fire.
