The Gropinator - Wrong approach
Progressives should have never chased that angle.

They should have simply ignored it - the California Dems blew it as soon as he brought it up.

It was simply too easy for the right wing media types to charge "SMEAR!"

What they SHOULD have done was HAMMERED ON the secret meeting between Ken Lay and Arnold in May of 2001.

Enron raped California and Arnold was either in on it or knew about it.

10. Sorry
You're right. It should have been brought out the day that wanna-be neo-Reagan announced his candicacy, and HAMMERED ON over and over again.

It just proves once again that if there is a "Liberal media", they are easily distracted and manipulated.

Whomever controls the mainstream media made sure thatthis issue was on the back burner.

8. You're simply wrong...
the issue needed to be brought up. Millions voted for the Gropinator simply because he was a movie star. He would have gotten elected if he had murdered someone.

At least bringing up the issue gives us grounds for another recall, maybe even some jail time. I'm sorry but I'm not gonna be one of those Dems who says "give him some time." I want him outta there yesterday, on a rail. I don't care how much it costs, and BTW, yes, I live in California and believe that it's the rest of the country, with no stake in this, that got us into this mess. He's a bigger idiot than shrub, and I'm ashamed to be a Californian and an American. People in this country are complete idiots.

OK, since you live in California, I guess we all better listen! :-)

How are Californians with this generally, now that they've had a day to absorb what happened?

How do you figure that the rest of the country got you into this mess?

4. The vote was really as much AGAINST Davis ...
I know tons of people here who don't really like Schwarzenegger, but are so pissed at Davis for LYING about the budget that they were willing to vote for the recall.

The Republicans took advantage of the rarely used loophole recall option in California state law to worm their way into office.

The anger at Davis that successfully tapped was VERY REAL.

No charge against Schwarzenegger wouldn't stop the removal of Gray Davis.

Sad, but true (and I'm saying this as someone who feels like my previous vote for Gray Davis has been nullified by the Republicans a la Bush/Gore 2000).

11. Anybody who didn't know California was in fiscal chaos was a complete fool
And BTW, Bush and his cronies caused this mess, not Davis. Any Democrat who voted for recall is a complete jackass and should be hung by the genitals!

7. Electing Arnold is going to haunt the GOP for the next 4 years.
The gropester is going to be the butt of so many jokes that the GOP is going to be really sorry he's their boy.

Swarzzenegger is sexist. Whether we say it or not, he's still sexist. And everyone is going to know he's sexist, sooner or later.

It's actually an important thing to know about a governor, don't ya think?

Most women are well aware of sexism. But a surprising number poo-poo it and say it doesn't bother them. These naysayers turn into believers PDQ when it happens to them. And it's only a matter of time before it does. Some people have to have their noses rubbed in the mud before they understand. Or in Arnold's case, their heads dumped in the toilet.

19. smear
My wifes family in CA, who see themselves as independants, when i was talking to them today, said that the smears were one of the reason they voted for arnold. They believe the smears came from the davis campaign and in their minds they had had enough, so they decided to teach the Davis campaign a lesson. Well they have to live with it, not me.

I think there were a lot of Dems though, that pocketed big bucks from the likes of Enron and Reliant, and that's why the issue never really became hot. It was a "potatoe" too hot to pick up, but one that could have changed the results of the elections.
