Simple Democratic slogan for '06: "Had Enough?" |
|
It worked when the GOP used it in the 1946 midterm elections which brought the notorious 80th Congress to power that Truman railed against in 1948. I think the slogan would be equally effective for Democrats in '06--given war, high gas prices, the coming recession, and the ethical problems of the GOP.

14. Never give these people an inch |
|
hit them hard, and show no mercy. Kerry should have had a 'pit bull' to take on and slash the Swift boat liars instead of taking the high road and letting them inference him to death.
Kick the bastards where it hurts, do it often, and do it hard.
Drive home the flaws of the Katrina pandering including the over-bloated throwing of money at it with no accountability and empathize how badly illegals exploited to do the clean-up work are being treated and how those with an investment in the community are being kept away and in shelters instead of giving them some of this work.
That's just an example, but I'm sure you get my point.
As Ken Kesey said was the motto of the family portrayed in Sometimes a Great Notion, the Stampers, "Never give an Inch." They were a family of fiercely-independent Oregon loggers struggle to keep the family business alive amidst changing times.
We are for families and people and their future's betterment, the Repugs are anything but. Never give an inch. Kick the Repugs up one side of the street and down the other. I'm pissed and sick beyond death of these cretins.

21. How about a promise of something better, rather than just an end to |
|
outright 1890's-style corporate rape?
I see too many of the Dems sitting on their asses, waiting for power to just be dropped in their laps. Apparently they think that, if we're beaten up badly enough, we'll vote for them. They don't actually want to jump INTO the mess and push the corporatists BACK- they just want to be the lesser evil.

50. Yes! Better jobs, education, healthcare, infrastructure. |

Simply being "the other party" or "the less tainted party" is not powerful enough. Democratics must start thinking power. Power flows when people feel empowered.
Make platforms and slogans that empower the voters who move over to the Democratic Party.

Need positive slogans, not anti-this or anti-that for slogans. "Had enough?" is good meme, but work it into discussions and debates. I wouldn't suggest leading with it. You have to give them positive things to go to the Democratic Party for, otherwise they will drift aimlessly and stay home or drift back to Republicans.

|
"We don't suck" is implied in that statement. "They aren't getting anything constructive done, but we will" says the same thing. It's a starting point. I certainly hope there are ideas, platforms, etc., forthcoming after the initial attack of "they suck," and I'm not about to join the chorus of "they don't have any ideas" that I'm sick of hearing already.

If we just technically win the election but don't have a message that resonates we can only hope to staunch the losses, not make meaningful gains.

Americans should be encouraged to ask themselves:
"Are we better off now than five years ago?"
With the GM health benefits announcement, it's only a matter of time before corporations make health insurance a "personal" matter for employees. And of course, insurance companies will require prescreening to avoid paying the bills. Now, $8K a year for medical insurance premiums, on top of $3/gal gas...
