Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 05:59 PM by shance
I took my dog to the vet today and the office and the television was blaring Fox News and what was the main attraction?
THE TRIAL OF SADDAM HUSSEIN.
I was shocked, shocked I tell you...... <yawn>
They bring him out now like a caged circus bear when all hell is breaking loose.
Could they be more obvious?

1. Those trials might prove to have more fire than |
|
smoke! If he is allowed to tell the whole story the bush family may have a little trouble that dates back as far as Iran Contra.

3. The people of Iraq deserve a trial. A much bigger trial than they are |
|
going to get - that is for sure. But they deserve it. It should in reality be a year long thing. So that the country can go through all his crimes one by one and share the moment & heal.
Tis too bad it will be "trial lite". Too bad for them.

4. The "People of Iraq"? You're joking, right? |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 06:34 PM by shance
Since when did the "People of Iraq" ever receive a fair shake in this deal?
You mean to tell me this is being done for the Iraqi people?
Spare me please, and spare the Iraqi people the sentiment.
This is a diversion for diversion's sake only.

5. Saddam was a monster. What is unfair is the the Iraqi people will |
|
not get a "truth & reconciliation trial" like they had in South Africa. Not a full one.
Bad things happened to thousands of people under Saddam. Hating George Bush does not mean SAddam was a good guy. He was a monster. The people of the country deserve to share the experience of what that freak did to them and their psychis. As Iraqis will tell you themselves - once there is peace (okay they said this early on in the American war) once there is peace then we will have to deal with our own dam selves and what we were a part of under saddam.
Just like Americans - in a lesser way - have to deal with how they were duped by the Rove WH and what that means about their characters.
All people who get fooled or terrorized into silence and compliance - have work to do.
It would be so good for those people and if you watch the news - the people with 'disappeared' family members are the very first ones lining up to watch the trial.
It will mean that Sunni Baathists will not be able to turn to their families and say - it was great under Saddam. It will mean people all over the country will get a chance to share in a sort of healing that is required after trauma.
It may mean more peace. Concessions from Sunnis. Healing for the traumatized.
It will mean alot to them. EAch and every one.
I am only sad that it will not be a year long. (Likely just a Saddam trial lite so that Reagan & Bush Sr. WH will not have to answer for their early participation with Saddam). I don't deny the politics in this and that a trial favours the Bushes. A longer one would be better and would favour the Bushes less. The truth is the truth.
People need it to move on with life and be real.
Not everything that happens in the world is about America or what one side or the other in American politics would like to see.
Sometimes it is actually about the people there themselves. A longer trial would be better for them all. Not not trial - or a short trial. A long trial is how war crimes are universally tried.
I feel sorry for Iraqis that this trial will be cut short.

6. We all know the mantra, "Saddam was a monster". |
|
What's more important is who created Saddam? Who promoted and gave weapons of "mass destruction" to this man?
Those individuals who are calling for his execution now. They created him, and now they are mad at him because he defied them.
This has absolutely nothing about the Iraqi people certainly for this Administration, and for you to imply this fallacy essentially perpetuates the lie. For this Administration, it is all about revenge and oil and strategically placed land.
I would have hoped the writing would be on the wall for most people by now.
