I am amazed.
There are a whole shitload of conservative idiots who still cling to the statement "Bush did not lie about WMDs".

Hopefully they have not polluted the gene pool.

1. The new rational of the morans is that bush did/does everything
for the right reasons, it just doesn't always work out quite right in practice, but you can't fault him for his good intentions.

5. Of course they do.
Everything they are is vested in this fraud we have in the WH. They'll never admit failure. Even if by some master stroke the village idiot were removed from office it would only serve to galvanize the base against us evildoers who tarnished the reputation of the man ordained by god to lead us.

7. Quote from a whacko on Liberty Post:
"Stranger things have happened. The MSM, the Dems, the Euros, and the loony Left have long since convinced most people that Bush is at fault for Saddam's evasions re: WMD."

I answered him with:

Bush lied about WOMD to start a war, and Saddam gets the blame for these little nuggets of deceit. Isn't that trying to have your cake and eat it too?

It sure is, it doesn't work that way Kyle. Bush was wrong, and there was no legal justification to invade. It runs quite contrary to the tradition of this country to invade simply to do regime change, as that is something the onus is on the people in that country to do.

There are limits to what countries can do legally in regard to violations of another nation's sovereignty, and Bush violated them. He should be impeached for lying about Iraq, removed from office, and then be sent to the Hague for a war crimes tribunal to be punished for what he did.

Nobody is above the law.

13. It is tradition to remove unwilling regimes from power,
(unwilling to put US interests before their own) though not usually by means of invasion. Usually one of the plans A or B works (destabilization, assassination).
What's different with the Bush regime is that they lie about it so openly - and get away with it to.

But regime change as such is in accordance with (covert) official policy:

"Official doctrine is quite inconsistent with the historical and documentary record. (Official doctrine) conforms to the pattern of evolving events, and is entirely inconsistent with widely proclaimed doctrine." - Noam Chomsky

Quotes from declassified State Department documents from 1948:

On the 3rd World:

"...a source of raw material and markets for the industrialist capitalist powers, to be exploited for their reconstruction"...

On Latin America:

"Prime concern is the protection of our raw materials. We have 50% of the worlds wealth but only 6% of its population, we must maintain this disparity to the extent possible, by force if necessary, putting aside vague and idealistic slogans such as human rights, raising of living standards, democratization, preferring police states if needed over democracies that might be to liberal and to indulgent to communists, the latter has lost any substantial meaning in US political rhetoric, referring simply to anyone who stands in our way."

"The primary threat to the US in Latin America is the trend towards nationalistic regimes that respond to popular demand for improvement in low living standards and production for domestic needs. That's not acceptable because the US is committed to encouraging a climate inductive to private investment, in particular guaranties for opportunity to earn and in the case of foreign capital to repatriate a reasonable return."

"We must therefore oppose what is regularly called ultra nationalism in secret documents, that means efforts to pursue domestic needs. We must foster exports or (...) production in the interests of US investors. It is recognized such programs have very little appeal to the Latin American public. So the conclusion is that we must therefore gain control over the military which can in turn control domestic opposition and overthrow civilian governments if necessary."

"One learns a lot from looking at the documentary record, and one learns a lot from the fact that certain people don't want you to look at it." - Noam Chomsky

From a debate between Noam Chomsky and Richard Perle at The Ohio State University in 1988 http://www.radio4all.net/proginfo.php?id=8409

====

"There is a declassified State Department paper from 1948 that outlines what the US intended to do with various regions of the world after World War II. The US decided to take the Middle East and Asia. When it came to Africa, the document essentially says that we're not so interested in Africa, so we'll give it to the Europeans to "exploit"-that's the word used-for their reconstruction." - Chomsky

I. Fundamental Principles: Straight Power Concepts

The fundamental aims of Western foreign policy under American leadership, were stated in a now declassified top-secret planning report produced by the US State Department’s policy planning staff, headed at the time (February 1948) by the ‘liberal’ George Kennan: "We have about 50 per cent of the world’s wealth, but only 6.3 per cent of its population... In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain’ the ‘position of disparity’ between the West and the rest of the world. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction... We should cease to talk about vague and... unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of living standards, and democratization. The day is not far off when we will have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are then hampered by idealistic slogans, the better.’

11. FRINGE MINORITY...the MAJORITY of Americans say bush LIED.
By a margin of 50% to 44%, Americans say that President Bush should be impeached if he lied about the war in Iraq...Other polls show a majority of U.S. adults believe that Bush did in fact lie about the reasons for war, including an ABC News/Washington Post poll in June.

"The results of this poll are truly astonishing," said Bob Fertik."This poll tells us that a solid plurality of Americans want Congress to consider removing Bush from the White House".

Impeaching Bush polls higher than Clinton

December 17, 1998, only days before Clinton's impeachment by the House of Representatives, when an AP poll found that only 36 percent of the American public wanted to see the president impeached.

SUCK IT UP, stupid MFing rightwingnuts!

15. I'm amazed that YOU'RE amazed at THIS thread particular thread
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 08:21 AM by chalky
considering the proliferation of "I reeeeally reeeeally hate O'Reilly (no reeeeeally)" threads, the "I pissed off a Republican" threads, the "I converted a Republican" threads, the "This bumpersticker makes me puke" threads, the "I wish they'd stop reporting on missing white girls!!" threads, and the "Mannthrax Coulter on inSannity, NOW!" threads you have to choose from.

Hey, it can't all be Shakespeare. If you're looking for something more substantive, I recommend you hang out in LBN.

Or better yet, start your own thread about how shallow THIS thread is. Because your post was such a profound addition to the conversation, it's worthy of its own thread.

16. haha You make good points
and yes, I know LBN is "safe". Rarely is idiocy allowed to stand and never are the vanity posts spared the ax in LBN.

Sadly GD used to be a great place for lots and lots of intelligent discussion. There's still some but man, the standards have dropped greatly.

Loved this:

Or better yet, start your own thread about how shallow THIS thread is.

I'm tempted just to make a point. :toast:

19. You are so right.
I was just listening to a tape delay of washington journal whereas some republican was arguing with the journalist (the guest) that Bush did not lie about the wmd blah blah. In his eyes, Bush can do no wrong and he was highly upset that some media (he calls the liberal media) have the nerve to criticize his precious George W. Bush. The guy sounded like an idiot.
