"Protect The Family - Vote Republican" and "My God My Country..." |
|
...Vote Republican."
These are slogans on stickers the NC GOP is passing out at the NC State Fair this week.
The God sticker doesn't bother me as much as the family sticker does. The implication that Democrats don't protect families is not only insulting, but it is inaccurate.

Though I'd ask for one of those stickers, and then use it at the top of a sign that explained how the Rethugs have HURT families via cuts in social programs.

4. "Protect the Rich Families" |

"Send poor kids to die in Iraq" would be a more appropriate slogan for the repubs.
I'm new to NC; where is the state fair? Perhaps I'll go have a look.

5. Wow. I totally missed this. |
|
I just went to the fair and never even saw their booth.
How disgusting both of those stickers are...who are they "protecting the family" from anyway? Crazy right wing assholes? And they own God too?
Glad I missed them!

the sticker has been on that car since "shock and awe" and the driver couldn't tell you 5 things that have happened since that war started.

12. The implication is that Democrats are the threat to THE family |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 09:57 AM by kenny blankenship
that needs to be protected against, not just that the Democratic Party is an inept defender.
The clue is the use of "THE family." They're not speaking of "defending families" in NC or defending the families in your neighborhood--not families as they are in all the varied shapes one encounters in reality--but defending the fundamentalist idea of the ETERNALLY CORRECT family. (The family that has never been and never will be--perfectly conformed to traditional gender roles and also happy and functional within that totalitarian corset.) They have no thought of upholding the standard of living and opportunities for households with children. They are not concerned about making healthcare more affordable to families, or making sure families headed by wage earners have enough money for bread. No they're only talking about making the shape of the family mandatory and about their desire to crush cultural changes which--they think and fear--are introducing variations. Here's what they are defending: Daddy rules in all things, Mommy makes babies and cleans house, and kids wear pink and play with dolls if they're girls and wear blue and are captain of the preschool football team if they're boys. WHat they are "defending" is hierarchy and rigid roles with shame and punishment for any deviation from their idea of the family.
There is you see, only ONE family and you're in it or out of it.

|
The repubs do not support families. Unless the families are those of corporate execs.
People need to learn how to read rather than being family-centric and naive.
Not that it would do any good anyway...
And ignorance can be bliss too.

Still Voting Democrat Are You Stuck on Stupid
Um, speaking of stupid, shouldn't that have a question mark at the end of it?
There was one other bumper sticker about the taxed States of America.
Thing is, I wonder what this person is going to say when his fees go up instead, or else he will stop getting his garbage picked up.
What about the services that taxes pay for? Don't they want them any more?
