Bet he is. There is one Democrat that doesn't want ANY indictments. Politics do make for strange bedfellows. Don't they?

2. He should have thought of that...
...before he married someone in thrall to the BFEE.

I'll never understand how he could have any respect for a woman who supports that corrupt administration. How can you divorce that agenda from your personal moral values?

how can you live with someone so diametrically opposed to everything you believe in....maybe we should be suspicious of his motives

27. I can understand having a spouse who is apolitical
When my partner and I first joined up, I hated politics -- the backstabbing, the lying, the smarmy fake smiling -- so I avoided all political news.

But we were both still in basic agreement about human values, we both believed in the concept of a common good, the need to protect the weak and the poor, the importance of education in maintaining a democratic society, and we both had a pretty good idea that Repulbican "self-reliance" was just a code word for "getting mine and letting someone else pay for it."

Eventually, after 9-11, I became as much of a rabid political news junkie as my partner, so that was all to the better. But again, my underlying philosophy didn't change, just my ability to articulate it in a political context.

How can Carville possibly find common ground at home with a woman who cheerfully supports one of the most corrupt, cynical, treasonous administration in US history. That is a fundamental statement of her moral values -- f*ck the country, f*ck the poor, f*ck the suckers who vote and the young men and women who fight and die in Iraq.

I wouldn't want that woman's genes in my offspring.

39. You've made my point, and done it even better...
"we were both still in basic agreement"

how could Carville & Matalin ever be in agreement, with her supporting the criminal BushCo? Unless, of course, it's all just a game, like they've created their own little cottage industry.

26. He essentially ribbed Novak for being a coward on TV...
causing Novak to storm off the set. Remember that?

I wondered at the time what that exchange was really about, but if Carville is mad at Novak for singing to Fitz and getting his wife into trouble, that would sure explain it.

12. Thankfully Clooney has already helped Carville
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 12:32 PM by Mabus
In Clooney's short-lived "K-Street" on HBO there was a brewing political scandal that involved Carville and Matalin.

On the series one of the big developing subplots was that firm that Carville and Matalin worked at was being investigated for money laundering. One of the last episodes had the characters unable to talk to each other because of an on-going investigation and another had the firm selling off furniture because of the firm's reputation had taken a header. Another major subplot was the hiring of a crony to appease one of the firm's larger investors.

I think Clooney and Soderberg did a wonderful job in helping Carville release how some of the Washington crony-ism could come back and bite him in the ass. It also helped prepare him for a long-term investigation that could bring down him, his wife and the business they helped build.

If she choses to stay loyal to Bush then it's tough cheese. If I were Carville I would be pissed if she decided to go to jail rather than rat on Bush. That shows she has more loyalty to Bush than him.

14. I lost all respect for anything Carville says/does since
he called Jon Stewart "a pompous ass". He was "called out" on his attitude and lack of courage to speak the real truth and couldn't take it.

I then realized that he calls attention to himself and things he says just to get noticed and continue with a made up a position to maintain a job with good pay - just like Ann Coulter. They have no creditibility with me - anyone can ACT like they are one side or the other, but their actions (and words) speak loudly. They are in it for the MONEY.

20. I don't question his sincerity in being a Democrat & don't expect anyone,
especially not someone in politics, to live a life of self imposed frugality (like Nader/Jerry Brown).

Almost every single American is "in it for the money" to some extent.

And as far as the Philosophical base for that manner of living- it's called Materialism. A position most DU'ers unwittingly and hypocritically embrace.

Oh, and as for calling Stewart a pompous ass-

While I witnessed Stewart's appearance on Crossfire and supported him and his statements... if someone came on my show and attacked me, I'd probably be on the defensive too.

28. except Carville wasn't on Crossfire that night ...
And I did not question his sincerity about being a Democrat, and never said anything about his lifestyle or wealth.

I implied that he wasn't true to his words ... Jon said (and I believe it was true), that they are "partisan hacks" and who "have a responsibility to the public discourse" but "fail miserably." And James couldn't admit that - sort of like most politicians and really that is what he was.

But when you try to portray yourself as a journalist, you have to take a less partisan view - unless you want all journalists to impose their views on you (does Judy Miller ring a bell?).

BTW, I don't embrace Materialism

35. No, but that CNN tried to make these shows appear as news
And that is what Jon Stewart was saying - that he did a disservice by taking part in so-called news shows as journalistic commentator without making it clear that was his job to be a partisan hack for entertainment purposes.

These 24 hr day cable news station never make the distinction between news/entertainment - we all know that O'really & Limpballs are not journalists, just talk show hosts, but they think of themselves as journalists!

33. All very well put. One quibble- Carville wasn't/isn't a journalist
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 01:34 PM by cryingshame
he's a political consultant who occassionally played the role of commentator on tv.

Crossfire descended into what it descended into. A shouting match where Democrats ususally got smacked down due to their insistence on trying to use reason and logic when dealing with the GOP mudslinging liars.

I applaud Jon Stewart for calling them out but IMO, Crossfire is/was the LEAST of the problems we've got regarding the Media.

At least on Crossfire there were equal numbers or righties and lefties. And Carville was very good at out-shouting the GOP Screamers.

Yes, but I still lost respect for him, as I have with other Dems who don't speak up when it is right and necessary.

On Edit: Exactly - PLAYED the role - that is why I got mad at him for calling out Jon Stewart - he should have just admitted that was his job to play the political hack.

24. JC quick to call Paula Jones "trailer trash"; his wife is far trashier
Mary Matalin has the most snide, callous attitude I have ever seen a woman display. As Cheney's top political advisor, she has wreaked far more pain and suffering on the world than any dozen Paula Jones. I think Carville has a deep masochistic streak to lead him to marry a woman who addresses him in public with words and tones dripping with contempt.

38. Boy, I never thought I'd be defending Mary Matalin...
Look, I hate this harpy too, right down to her sanctimonious tight-lipped puritanical propriety, but when asked in an interview how she could possibly be married to someone with such divergent views, she looked straight at the interviewer and said that whatever you think about him, he really cares; he cares about people and he cares about his beliefs and his country.

That gave me a shred of non-disgust for her, and made some odd sense out of an otherwise incomprehensible union.

It's fascinating, isn't it?

May she fry.

It would be nice if she's one of the ones who's flipped, especially if she did it for moral reasons rather than survival.

Enough of that, though; that's the only good thing I can say about her.
