First ever Hurricane named with a "W" |
|
Case closed. PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Visitors were ordered out of the Florida Keys on Wednesday as Hurricane Wilma briefly exploded into the most intense Atlantic hurricane on record, with meteorologists warning that it could maintain devastating power as it crosses Florida from the Gulf Coast to the Atlantic. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051019/ap_on_re_us/wilma_florida

1. 1933 had just as many named tropical storms as this year. |
|
2005 has NOT set a record for number of storms, only tied it. However, Wilma has the lowest pressure 882 ever of any Atlantic basin hurricane. Wilma also holds the record for the fastest intesification ever in the Atlantic basin.

2. Yes, but there are some big differences between 1933 and 2005 |
|
In 1933, there were two category 4s, three Category 3s, three category 2s, and two category 1s.
In 2005 there have been three category 5s, two category 4's, one category 3, one category 2, and five category 1s.
In 1933, Tropical Storm 21 had maximum sustained winds of 35mph and occurred 15-17 NOV.
In 2005, Hurricane Wilma has had maximum sustained winds of 175 mph and has been running one omnth earlier than Tropical Storm 21 did in 1933.

5. Some might see that as a sign |

The most intense monstah on record is a "W" and is heading for Florida. Wonder what the "God's punishment" lunatics will have to say about that, since they're so good at reading the Almighty's tea leaves!

On November 3rd 2004-that bitter sad morning-my daughter was watching Sesame Street. Guess what the letter of the day was?
Oh man..I hope this hurricane weakens nobody deserves the W wrath.
Edited because I can't spell Sesame street-someone is laughing.
