Why I oppose private prisons. (Fairly obvious)
For some years now, we have heard coporate types argue that private prisons save the taxpayers money. Actually, privatization costs the taxpayers money.

As prisons become operated as a business, then the whole point is to grow. That is generally the whole point of business: to grow what you have. To make more money. To expand your operations. To expand the growth of a prison as a business obviously requires more customers.

I have no idea if it is coincidence or not, but I find it interesting the rise of private prisons and mandantory sentencing guidelines imposed on Federal judges occurred at roughly the same time.
