The end of The (current incarnation of) Guy James Show
Hey, folks, I was in West-by-God-Virginia for the last several days, and so am a bit tardy in passing on this note to you all.

Sad News;

Well, it finally happened!

Hello Ben,

I'm very sorry I didn't notify you yesterday about our show not being on the air. I was in a rather unsettled state of mind. Let me explain.

On Thursday the radio station notified me that our show would be pre-empted because of 24 hr. hurricane coverage. Fair enough. Well, as you know the hurricane was delayed and come Saturday morning I called the station and asked if we would still be pre-empted. They replied "Yes, you will be pre-empted". However, I listened to the station some and discovered that all of the regular shows were on the air. I figured they wouldn't start the hurricane coverage until late afternoon. I tuned in at 6pm to discover that they were running a Limbaugh pre-recorded program in my slot. I called and was told "Oh, we forgot to tell you, your show has been canceled because we are moving Gator football from one of our other stations to your time slot". I was stunned. Obviously, they have had plans to do that for some time now without notifying me until the last minute so that I would not have an opportunity to do a final show and say goodbye to my loyal listeners. I received many angry e-mails last night and this morning accusing me of blowing town for my safety while they had to stay. I never had any plans whatsoever to leave town and am sitting here in my boarded up house waiting for the storm to come later tonight.

Ben, I am just devastated over this. No warning, no apology, no nothing from the station. My producer is going to try and get us on another local station but the odds are very much against us because there is not one station around here carrying any liberal programming. Not even one program.

I'll let you know of any further developments. And, this information is not confidential so you may pass it on if you like.

Thanks for all of your support and your great help in promoting the program.

Guy

4. We all kind of knew they were looking for a "reason", didn't we?
I think when Guy started his show, they didn;t think he'd be able to afford it, and would stop on his own.. They never counted on a loyal following and were probably getting frantic complaints fom the wingnuts..

I have been begging Dirius and anyone else I can think of for AGES to pick Guy's show up.. He's waaay better than anything they have on now, and it;s a damned shame:(

3. Well, that sucks.
Especially the way the station dropped him in such a slimey, sneaky way.

8. I'm sooo sorry. I'm glad I don't live anywhere near there!
It's very bad here in Ga, but at least one station picked up AAR, and I do most of my listening on the net anyway!

Guy, keep contacting AAR and some stations outside of your local Fl. RED cauldron. I don't know how its' done, but I know several people who broadcase from their home, and it doesn't HAVE to be a local station.

Please stay on DU and keep up in the know of where we can find you.

Good Luck, and we're all going to miss you!!!!

6. Stinks big time
As someone who sent a bit of cash to Guy, didn't he at least deserve a straight-up answer from the station manager? What a weaselly answer.

Guy deserves a better deal. All he did was tell the truth one day a week.

And to be pre-empted by a recording of the head right-wing bloviator is the epitomy of callous.

I really hope he gets on another station, better yet on syndication.

Guy, if you're reading this, just know that there are a lot of us who would welcome you and your show on any network that dares to carry it.

13. Crap. What a fabulous example of a "free" press.
This just sucks but it doesn't shock me I suppose.

The powers that be don't want a Liberal/Progressive radio show on a major talk station in SW Florida...So they finally get what they want.

Bastards. Now let the unopposed Reichwing brainwashing of the service industry workers continue. Sure Guy was on just a fraction of the time that the fascists got to blather away but at least there was a a flippin' alternative.

Now back to our mass mind fuck programming, take a Valium, have a vodka, forget to be a citizen, and piss off.
