1. Amazing hypocrasy here.
If you go to the Freerepublic, which is filled with the right-wing fundies this book is aimed at, you will read that they want to elliminate religion, every religion that is not their's.
The long to wipe out every Muslim, Jew, Catholic(they believe the Pope is Satanic and Catholics are going to Hell!), Hindus, Buddists all of them are considered to be evil, wrong religions in the eyes of the nuts that loved the "Left Behind," series.
And of course the desire to illiminate war is right out of the Devil's hand book.
And why is it that they think that even God thinks that America is the most important country, that he/she loves most?

2. It's all blind patriotism to me
It's all blind and foolish patriotism to me. Nationalism should only be used as a trump card. For example, Joan of Arc used Hyper Nationalism to defeat the English. However, it can also be very dangerous for a country. It wipes out dissent and it prevents people from taking an objective or rational look at how their country is.

4. But they like to wrap it in the bible.
You know like the kings of old. The church let them say God gave the King the power and the church and king made out. Bush is now saying God talks to him or he talks to God. It is like the middle-ages with better guns. We have not come far have we?

3. Well they are not really Christians and real ones know it.
They are zealots.Yes a step brother to the ones we are told we are at war with. It is scary to think these people wish you dead if you do not believe as they wish.

11. I know that too.
I am an English Protestant, most CoE churches are not full of these zealots and loathe the kind of Christianity that they peddle.
I have been involved in a "Penticostal" church when I was younger.
I was mixed and unhappy and I know the way they believe that everybody is going to hell but those that have a literal belief in the Bible. Fortunatly I am grow up and got free, these people make my skin crawl.

5. Tim Lahaye, Lisa Beamer and Brian Birdwell
all have contracts with Tyndale House.

Jerry B. Jenkins does the actual writing of the Left Behind series that Tim Lahaye takes the credit for.
Sometimes, Jerry branches out on his own.
Tim Lahaye and Jerry Falwell and George Bush (both) are all very chummy with the Reverend Sun Myung Moon.
For really interesting insights on the vision these people have for planet earth, check out some of their press releases at:

DALLAS/FT. WORTH, TX - Making life easier for the writer who simply wants to write and for the speaker who merely wants to speak is the goal of The Barnabas Agency, the recently formed division of the B & B Media Group, Inc. “We are pleased to announce this new arm of our company that will be devoted to public relations and personal management services for authors, speakers and organizations. It is our desire to assist them in developing their platforms and advising and coordinating all of the necessary components to ensure the client’s success,” says Tina Jacobson, president and CEO.
It had become increasingly apparent to Jacobson over the last several years that there was a need to expand the vision of her publicity firm to include another level of service, one that would be a natural overflow of what the company was already doing. TBBMG had been representing several well-known authors and speakers, such as Doug Herman of Pure Revolution and Mark Matlock of WisdomWorks, assisting them in the development and organization of their ministries. After LISA BEAMER BECAME A CLIENT IN 2001, the need and the new direction were confirmed.

Dallas/Fort Worth, TX—Lt. Col. Brian Birdwell, a survivor and burn victim from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the Pentagon, along with his wife, Mel, have recently signed with Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. They will publish a book that not only chronicles the events of that day but also shows God’s sovereignty in all of life. The agreement was made in conjunction with the Birdwells’ public relations agent, Tina Jacobson, president of The Barnabas Agency, a new division of The B&B Media Group.
<snip>
The book will present Birdwell’s personal account of the tragic events of 9/11, recounting the emotional trials that he and his family have faced during the entire healing process.
“I’m extremely pleased that Brian and Mel will be working with Tyndale to publish their story,” notes Tina Jacobson, president of The Barnabas Agency. “We’ve been working closely with the Birdwells since August of 2002 and have watched them consistently handle their circumstances with grace and dignity. We are sincerely honored to represent such a remarkable couple. To be able to continue our long-standing and satisfying association with Tyndale is an added blessing as well.”
Tyndale House Publishers, located in Carol Stream, Illinois, published The New York Times’ bestseller Let’s Roll! by Lisa Beamer and Ken Abraham, as well as the popular bestseller Left Behind Series by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye.

It was very difficult for people to come to terms with the fact that Susan Smith was lying and had in fact killed her two boys all by herself. Similar disillusionment awaits the readers of the books published by Tyndale House.

8. Lisa Beamer??
What could that lying Freeper puppet Stepford wife possibly have to say that could fill a book?, Even another endless retelling of the LIE that her husband "heroically" brought down that plane that Uncle Dick ordered to be blasted out of the sky - what's that good for? 3 or 4 pages if you stretch it out??

An anagram. Clever.

As a non-Xian Christian (one who sleeps late every sunday & laughs at 'I love God, it's his fan club that scares me' bumper stickers') I suppose I don't have a problem with using fiction to make belief meaningful per se, UNLESS the politically-connected clueless fundie bozos think that Jenkins is a prophet inspired by God & believe his claptrap is literally true with respect to current events.

Look how the collected works of Hal Lindsey are treated like the true Word of God with that crowd. sigh...

12. The problem is they don't treat it as fiction.
They treat it like it is straight out of the book of Revelation.
These are the same nuts that tried to convert people in 1999, with
prophicies about the world stopping and the millenium bug.
They use The Left behind series as a prophetic word to scare that shit out of people.

9. The sad thing is that the Bush administration is loaded with these nuts
Edited on Sun Oct-12-03 10:54 AM by Mari333
and Bush's base constituency is end timers, who, when Jesus didnt fly out of the clouds in 2000, got really pissed off, and are now trying to FORCE Armageddon on the rest of us, because they cannot fathom the thought that they are full of shite and are delusional fanatics..

http://www.iraqwar.org/Armageddonupdates.htm

and Boston college has been studying the insane end time nuts since before 2000...one of their research papers mentions the anger and scapegoating that would occur when jesus didnt come back in 2000

"Demonization often begins with marginalization, the process in which targeted individuals or groups are placed outside the circle of wholesome mainstream society through political propaganda and age-old prejudice. The next step is objectification or dehumanization, the process of negatively labeling a person or group of people so they become perceived more as objects than as real people. Dehumanization often is associated with the belief that a particular group of people are inferior or threatening. The final step is demonization; the person or group is seen as totally malevolent, sinful, and evil. Needless to say, it is easier to rationalize stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination, and even violence against those who are dehumanized or demonized.

Demonization fuels dualism--a form of binary thinking that divides the world into good versus evil with no middle ground tolerated. Dualism allows no acknowledgment of complexity, nuance, or ambiguity in debate, and promotes hostility toward those who suggest coexistence, toleration, pragmatism, compromise, or mediation. James Aho observes that our notions of the enemy "in our everyday life world," is that the "enemy's presence in our midst is a pathology of the social organism serious enough to require the most far-reaching remedies: quarantine, political excision, or, to use a particularly revealing expression, liquidation and expulsion."

10. Behind even THIS paranoia, a grain of truth...
Fundies like Jenkins probably know- and dread- deep down- that they've stirred the pot to the point of boiling when it comes to WWIII.

If the PNAC/Evangelical Christian "Zionists" get their way, they'll set the stage for Armageddon, there'll be bloody hell, and, of course, no "Jee-zus" to come and play Superman/Mighty Mouse (Andy Kaufman singing "Here I come to save the daaay!...means Jesus Christ is on the waaay!").

This type of dreck is paving the way for the inevitable backlash against militant fundies.

15. didnt know about that one...
I have read every left behind book published to date. It is a series that will be made into movies ( actually already is ). It is some of the very best I have ever read, and I have read a very large number. So, again it is an excelent piece of FICTION and if people are treating it like it is part of the bible than they should maybe attempt to boost their IQ's just a little, or better yet, read the bible for themselves to see why this series is just a very good work in FICTION.
