Dems can't come out gunz a blazin' on Alito just yet. ~ PLAMEGATE ~ |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 02:20 PM by mzmolly
If Dems start talking "filibuster" now, that gives the media an excuse to stop talking about corruption in the WH, PNAC, Libby, PLAMEGATE, and the case for war.
If Dems are smart, they will put out feelers and see how the RW responds to Alito first. Dems should give the impression they are weighing the nomination carefully.
And, that's what I expect to see personally. We can't let this CIA story become second page news. There is much to consider, so please keep that in mind when examining the stated Democratic position on Alito. We have to play it somewhat cool here. We're walking a tightrope.
Dems will fight this nomination when they have to, but we have to tread carefully, for now.

1. They thought that was what Bush would do from the beginning-diversion. |
|
People were surprised when he had nominated Miers. Now he's gone to Plan B.

Just go slow & let some of his opinions get out. I heard he's against the family leave act, which is incredibly popular. If the Dems could just hold their fire, maybe he'll shoot himself in the foot first.

Play cordial about the nomination, voice a few concerns and save the big stuff for when the hearings start.
I've seen it before with the other nominations where DU posters get their bowels in an uproar if we don't denounce immediately.
Smart strategy means not playing all your chips and announcing your game plan within the first 10 minutes of the game. This is for the long run so best to keep it low-key til the battle starts.

8. The supreme court is more important then 'plamegate'. |
|
Bush is not that important. He will be gone in 3 years no matter what. Alito will be attacking our freeddom from the bench for decades.

That's what I suggest.
Further, the PLAMEGATE trail leads to treason. It's very important.

I think Fitzgerald though should just handle the investigation and the democrats worry about the judge nomination. Fitzgerald doesn't care about the news and what they talk about. He's still going to do his job.

kicks into gear?
I have more confidence that the Dems will be putting up a decent fight against him than I do that they will keep pushing Treason-gate.
We HAVE to keep this story alive...

15. What they should say: |
|
"...we know how important it is to replace a SCOTUS justice, but there will be plenty of time to investigate his background, and question him in hearingd.. First we need to concentrate on the treason & treachery in the White House"...

Isn't that what we were all saying during the Roberts' nomination? We turned our focus off of Roberts, and the other issues became second-hand anyway. I'm not saying that you don't have a point, but we need to have our guns out and blazing all the time.
I might be wrong, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.
