BBV - What Is Chris Dodd Up To With HAVA2002?
Sen. Dodd was just up to include something about HAVA in the Iraq Appropriations bill. He was talked out of offering the ammendment at this time and will pick another vehicle to get it on the floor. What do they want to do? This was a surprise.

Let Your Senator Know That Every Vote Counts!

Last year, because of your support, Congress passed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). This law was enacted to prevent the chaos of the 2000 election from recurring and ensure that every vote counts in 2004.

Among its reforms, HAVA requires states to upgrade voting equipment, create statewide voter registration databases, ensure provisional ballots are available, and to expand access for voters with disabilities. When HAVA was approved, Congress promised to provide $3.9 billion to accomplish these reforms. But that has not happened - only a fraction of the funding has reached the states.

This week, Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) will offer an amendment to the Iraq supplemental funding bill to fully fund HAVA.

Please call your Senators today and urge them to support the Dodd amendment and make sure all of our votes are counted in the 2004 election. Your Senators can be reached by calling the Senate Switchboard at 202.224.3121 or directly at the following numbers:

snip...

So they want to get HAVA funded, but disregard the concerns addressed by HR2239.

It gets back to the same issue discussed on other threads: CommonCause, ACLU, LWV and others are serving to contribute to the problem and not the solution.

HR2239 will die in committee at the end of October if it is not brought to the floor and passed, but it won't come to the floor until it gains further support from Dems and Reps is gained.

We at www.VerifiedVoting.org have written to our list and asked that people contact their congressional representatives. Their position of suporting this important legislation (for or against) will be posted in our site: http://www.verifiedvoting.org/houseofreps.asp If anyone wishes to help in this regard please email contact@verifiedvoting.org

Thanks

3. We need to enlighten C. Dodd
Does he represent any of the folks on this board? Please let him know he is not doing the Murkan sheeple any favors by pushing this issue.

4. Check out Dodd
He may be part of the problem. Was he a HAVA sponsor?

Dodd hobnobs every year in Europe with the corporate elite- along with Chuck Hagel. Those two are consistent.

5. Whats the deal with Common Cause?
This is an oxymoronic situation, isnt it?

Doesnt make sense that they would be in support of voting equipment that is coming under a big cloud of controversy.

6. Check out Dan Tokaji
On Tue July 22, 2003, the Forum program on http://www.kqed.org/ featured Dan Tokaji of California Common Cause. It is a 30-minute segment that pits him against Kim Alexander of www.CalVoter.org.

Go to the home page and search on Tokaji - their shows are all archived.
