Question about the Plame investigation |
One thing I don't get about the whole handing over documents thing, and maybe someone can shed some light on this - if someone in the White House has documents that would implement themselves, wouldn't they just not hand them over to the justice department? It's like gathering up all of the suspects to a murder case and saying, "If you have any clothes that may have gun fire residue on them, please hand them over to us for inspection. Thank you."

1. The Whitehouse Council has said they will review all documents BEFORE |
handing them over to investigaters. This is kind of like the Little girl murder (what was her name)Ramsey I think, Jon Benet Ramsey. Remember the parents didn't have to be interviewed by police because of all their money and fame. This reminds me of that case and it was never solved either.

2. I think it's a matter of weighing the risks |
I agree the obvious thing to do would be just to withold some documents, but there must be the risk that that could be found out, and that could make the scandal worse, like the Watergate coverup was worse than the original crime.
I'm sure they're working very hard right now trying to do exactly what you're saying, trying to see what they can get away with. And I'm sure they'll be able to get away with much more against Ashcroft than against a special counsel.
