For my 300th Post, a brag and a challenge |
|
Decided that I would use my 300th post to share a success story with you. I have a friend who lives in Louisiana who is 42 years old, and has never voted. I discovered this when we first met about five years ago, and I have been working on her ever since. I've been working to try and help her understand why politics is relevant to her, a wage-earner with a high school education and a daughter for whom she has no hopes of college. I've tried to raise her consciousness about the outrages perpetrated by this administration. Well, this past week it finally paid off.
My friend registered to vote.
She sent me the following e-mail: "I can't WAIT for next election. So you see, I really, really am serious about being Anti-Bush. A person doesn't even have to have strong party affiliations to be Anti-Bush."
That's my success story. Now here's my challenge. I challenge each and every one of you to do the same. Get just ONE person to the polls at the next election. Just ONE person who has never voted before, because they thought it didn't matter. If we can all do that, we can win.

i'll take you up on that challenge, my friend. Lots of people i know, especially the younger ones, have never registered to vote. Everyone needs to encourage those around them to vote for the democratic candidate in 2004.

My brother had stopped participating in politics several years ago. He is 39. My best friend has never particiated at all, never voted, never cared. He is 33.
Sunday I took them to see Howard Dean. They both donated money, registered to vote, and volunteered to work on the campaign.
Booyah!
