3. Someone whose parents were communists
but I mean someone who inherited their political being from their parents or family, specifically, if their parents or family lived, ate and breathed politics.

6. I overlap, too.
I tend to vieqw myself as an essayist and social critic--not that I have that great an output, but it's how I tend to get engaged politically. But I also belong to a Democratic club, and I also regularly attend protests and write letters to editors, members of Congress, etc.

8. You need an Enemy of the State option

Since bush created so many of us.

"you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

And so many millions of people had previously thought "terrorist" was a BAD thing...

As a matter of fact I just got back from a trip to DC to lobby for more Wilderness.

I realize that there have not been very many responses yet, but is anyone else bothered by the fact that most people have described themselves as political junkies that read about politics?

C'mon folk we are not going to beat bushie by reading the paper and bitching on DU. Get out there and get involved.

18. Like Mike Malloy says:
A blue-collar, working-class, pro-labor progressive democrat. Many of the types you name rub me the wrong way, since they seem to be either elitist or self-aggrandizing.

To call oneself an intellectual is dismissive of the intellect of others, IMO. I read, and think about things a lot, but I'd be very hesitant to call myself that (no unsolicited commentary here, please! :-))

19. It's a question about how people do politics
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 11:30 PM by BurtWorm
Some people are active, some are more reflective. Neither one is better or worse than the other. There's no law against blue-collar working-class people becoming intellectuals, just as there's no law against upper class types rolling up their sleeves and doing the work of democracy.

PS: I didn't create this poll to judge or shame anyone. I created it out of curiosity. I find the results interesting, taking into account that they're not scientific. Most of the DU activists may be too busy to even know this poll is being "conducted."
