Philadelphia and the Republican thieves. |
|
Saw some information that said Repubs do not need to win all Pennsylvania just Philly to get the electorial votes. The Mayor seems to be on the up and up about having an honest government. This investigation did come out of nowhere (no hints it had gone on for two years!) Are the Repubs using a smear tactic here to get electorial votes? Can a Senator like Rick Santorum get the FBI to do useless ,photo op raids?

1. It is interesting to note that Street's numbers are rising |
|
while Katz's are falling.
I don't think it sits well with Philadelphia at all, and Katz has a lot of nerve running his campaign about Street's "investigation" when he is under one himself and requested that the records for his own be sealed.
I don't particularly care for Street, but this is reason enough to rally to his cause against Katz.
Republican business as usual. Hopefully people are finally smelling the stink.

3. Oh they're smelling the stink allright |

Yesterday's front page Daily News read "Black Rage" and I'm seeing it everywhere. The conversations I've been engaged in and overhearing around the city indicate a mobilization among the black community that will come out en masse on election day. As one woman, who was exhorting her normally non-voting family and neighbors, put it on the El train yesterday, "Right now I'm mad but on election day I'm going to get glad. We sat around and did nothing and got stuck with Bush but we're not going to end up with Katz."

5. Even people who think Street is a substandard mayor |
|
are telling me they will vote for him because of how much this looks like a fix involving the Justice Department. One Dem friend of mine who was not going to vote for Street says she now will make a point of doing so.
I lived in Philadelphia until recently, Rendell absolutely spearheaded a major change for the better in Philadelphia. Street has faltered and is a divisive figure. But EVERYONE I talk to thinks it is fishy that this is happening now. My Republican Uncle even told me he thinks it is being done so Katz wins Philly and helps usher in Bush*.
Street knows that playing up the race angle will work for him and is doing so, on the news he has said "This is racial profiling." That is a bit tawdry and dishonest. This is not about his skin color, this is about the Republican machine attempting to steal an other election.

This sting has the Mayberry Machiavellis written all over it. And as per usual, they shot themselves in the foot by overplaying their hand.
Street is not an inspiring mayor and he has some very questionable deals to answer for, IMHO. However the timing of Buggate is just too suspicious. By blowing the lid off this a few weeks before a close election, they dealt him the race card he's playing and it's working. Philadelphians would rather stick with the devil they know than have the republicans shove a new one down their throats.

2. This is going to be a tough race |
|
Street has not had a good term as mayor--his tenure has been filed with controversy. He has alienated white people in the city, especially in the NE part of the city.
I do think that he is going to eke out a win against Katz. He was in deeper trouble a few weeks ago. However, it wouldn't suprise me if Katz wins in the end.
It is going to be tight, but the numbers seem to headed back into Street's favor.

Street was worried about leaks, so ordered a bug sweep.
They found bugs that were obviously FBI.
Was the FBI spying for the GOP in the upcoming election?
So the FBI got caught, and they had to come up with something to cover for the bugging of the Mayor's office.
All this time has past, and not a word or arrest on the matter. Nothing!
I'm not a fan of Street's, but next to Katz, he's a saint. Having grown up in the city, I know there are racial tensions and politicians play on them constantly.
Sorry for all the tin foil here...this thing just stinks.
