5. There is at least a kernel of truth to that
A lot of Islamic fundie hatred of America stems from their inability to deal with the decline of the Islamic(chiefly Arab) world from being the dominant civilization in the world to being almost irrelevant. They have the "one true god" yet the "infidels" are having exponentially more success than them. Many fundies can't handle this.

What you wrote might be true, but you're really giving the freepers too much credit

30. Some ring of truth to that, as well...
But not jealousy, rather fear of those things you mention. Fundamentalists of almost all stripes fear progress (in certain forms) because it pulls people away from the focus of faith to the focus on things that are, according to portions of scripture, anathema. The fundamentalist does not believe that the progress or freedoms or the excesses (or whatever they are railing on at the time) can peacefully co-exist with their idea of how their religion should be practiced. So, in some way, it is the cars and the bikinis and the rum and cokes that are to blame...

2. It's a crock. This administration just has no concept of people
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 12:35 PM by boxster
having religious beliefs other than their own, and they just don't understand that people could hate BushCo for the threat it represents to other nations and cultures.

Hell, BushCo doesn't have any concept of people having ANY beliefs other than their own.

They are the pinnacle of egocentrism.

Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 12:37 PM by Richardo
Just another great sounding but meaningless quote like:

Support the troops (by support you mean eliminating their benefits, ill-equipping them and sending them in harms way for profit?)

Taxes are YOUR money (really? so is what I owe the mortgage company and the credit card companies MY money, too?)

Run government like a business (like Harkin or Enron?)

But it plays well on Fox so :wtf:

 MoFo's

4. Logic
They hate freedom so it must be attacked (freedom and us).

Since the USA has freedom (think about this one, freedom has manyh meanings), then we must be "free" therefore we must be hated.

So either we are hated becuase "we" are free as a people, or that they hate the idea of freedom.

A statment that is hollow in substance that addresses nothing, it sounds good as a sound bite, but works well as propagahnda.

It's just a device to make the "them" look evil. The Bush people will do and say anything to fool the American public into going along with their fake war on 'terror'.

9. It's insulting is what it is
they think we're a bunch of "morans" and sadly many of us are. I've had so many people repeat this crock of shit to me. It they do "hate" us they hate us for keeping them from having what we have less and less of ourselves these days - the ability to choose our own government and run it the way we like. They hate us for sticking them with dictators for leaders and backing them with arms and money. There are plenty of reasons to be pissed off at the U.S. "Our freedom" isn't one of them.

11. Islam Intolerance
I'm not sure if they merely hate the United States because of our success or do they just lump us in with everyone else they seem to hate. If you will look closely, you will note that Moslems are engaged in war and terrorism in India, Pakistan, Indonesia, The Phillippines and several other Asian countries. The sad fact is that Moslems hate EVERYONE who is not like themselves.

16. Maybe you should word this more carefully
if you don't want the post deleted. Hit edit, then change that gross generalization that "Moslems hate everyone not like themselves" into something more reasonable and intelligent. Even "too many Moslems, etc." would do the trick. Welcome to DU. Good luck.

13. A simple question
If they hate our freedom so much, why aren't attacking Italy, Japan, Britain, Greece, Canada, Sweeden, Denmark, and a whole lot of other countries which aren't exactly 3rd-world piss pots?

They hate us because of Dubya's cocky attitude.

They hate us becuase he wanted to go to war.

They hate us because Bush wants to rule the world.

Bush has given them 87 billion reasons to hate us.

21. I believe it to a certain extent.
Just so we're clear, I believe it if we're talking about hard-core Islamic fundamentalists. They do, in fact, hate the fact that we are a pluralistic society where women are allowed to own property and travel outside the home without male relatives, to say nothing of hold positions of power. They hate the fact that Judaism is freely practiced in the West. They consider our free access to pornography and liquor to be a symptom of our cultural degeneracy. And so on.

It's a bit simplistic to say "they hate us because of our freedom," but there is a certain grain of truth to the statement.

22. Absolute nonsense.
*they* (depending who *they* are) do not like the West's imperialistic actions on the ME. They don't like the fact that the West blindly supports Israel with weapons, money and, more importatnly UN vetos, when it comes to the Israel/Palestine issue. They don't like the fact that the US props up all sorts of tyrannical Arabic regimes, and then hammers the citizenry when things go awry (ie; sanctions against and the attack on Iraq). There are fundies in *them* that are opposed to the west's ways (in terms of morality, etc) but certainly not because of freedoms. That's a GOP and ChimpCo sound bite that plays with folks who don't understand the much-larger under pinnings of current events. Besides, it seems to me that the events in Iraq are indicitve of people who want to be *free* of US occupation.

23. That statement could just as easily be used...
for the Christian fundies. They hate us for being pro-choice, pro-gay (or rather not anti-gay), for believing that more than one religion can coexist in the US without creating violence, etc, etc.

Tighty-assed puritanical hate-mongers just can't stand the thought of anybody else having any damned fun when they've bought into the twisty version of faux-aescetic thuggery that they find so unshakeable.

The truth? They hate us for our libertines!
