GIs in Iraq 'Fell About Laughing' When Asked If They'd Vote GOP in '04

Robert Fisk writes, "No wonder morale is low. No wonder the American soldiers I meet on the streets of Baghdad and other Iraqi cities don't mince their words about their own government. US troops have been given orders not to bad-mouth their resident or Secretary of Defence in front of Iraqis or reporters (who have about the same status in the eyes of the occupation authorities). But when I suggested to a group of US military police near Abu Ghurayb they would be voting Republican at the next election, they fell about laughing. 'We shouldn't be here and we should never have been sent here,' one of them told me with astonishing candour. 'And maybe you can tell me: why were we sent here?'"

14. I wouldn't bet on it, between
the internet "voting" the Pentagon has arranged and the electronic "voting" machines the Senate just funded yesterday looks like our regime has their bases covered.

20. That's right. They can't start another war,
unless the US were *directly* attacked. And I don't think Syria or Iran would be that dumb.

8. One of my friends just came back from Iraq.
He was severaly wounded, and received a Silver Star and a Puprle Heart. Any way.... he says that * will be lucky to get 40% of the military vote. It's not just ordinary GI's who despise him, but much of the brass sees him as destroying the military with his reckless adventurism.

11. Then they are fools...
probably never saw combat, and are in some of the higher ranks...the ones that don't fight.

Of course, they just might believe the crap stew that the GOP pushes their way. In any case, Virtually everyone I know at the VFW, American Legion and AMVETS, say they'll not vote for this cretin in '04. And I'm in Nebraska!!!!!

:nopity: for the ignorant that wish to remain so!

23. Same with the military people I know
the sad part is that most of those that I know who joined the military did so for reasons financial rather than patriotism. They neither benefit from the economy that Bush has squandered, and they are sent off to die in illegal wars that benefit only big business. Too bad they can't see that ;(

13. Clark and Kerry will be appealing to these voters...
...I think Kerry would be too- his explaination for his Iraq vote will ring true for most military men- who also "took Bush at his word."

In Augusta GA, the Young DEMS there are telling me that the young GI's from Ft. Gordon have been responding positivly to their monthly Friday night activism...I have a feeling that DEMS can get serious military votes this time around...
